-Senators finally got down to debating Bill C-234 yesterday.      Some are hoping to have it pass without amendments, so farmers using natural gas and propane for drying grain and heating barns, wouldn’t have to pay the carbon tax.       Tory Senator David Wells was asked if his support is an attempt to kill the tax overall: “In my second reading speech, I said this bill is not about whether or not you like or dislike the carbon tax, cause I knew if that was the debate we were going to have in this chamber on this bill, the room would be divide ..read more

-No debate yesterday on Bill C-234 in the Senate, as some senators were still talking about the alleged bullying they’ve been subjected to at the hands of some of their colleagues. And then there was a visit from Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault, who faced off against Tory Senate leader Donald Plett: “Come clean about what you’re doing Minister. You want a specific outcome on Bill C-234, and you’re calling around to Senators to make sure that happens. -What was supposed to be a debate on Bill C-234 in the Senate yesterday turned into a focus on bullying in the workplace, when a number of Independent senators who’ve tried to tack amendments onto the bill, accused some of their colleagues of bullying since their most recent meeting. Tory Senator David Wells has been trying to get the bill through, and was one of those who was accused.     He adamantly denied the allegations, saying not only would he never do that sort of thing, he wouldn’t tolerate it from anyone he knows.    At this point, all of the accusations ..read more

-Bill C-234 is supposed to be up for debate once again today in the Senate, as farmers and farm groups are waiting to see if it will actually be passed without amendments, or if some senators will continue trying to prevent that from happening. Organizer Jake Vermeer of Vermeer’s Dairy farm near Camrose says they weren’t really expecting a big turn out, as he says most farmers don’t want to leave the farm to do something political.     He says their group wa ..read more
