Hi, I'm Ming. I'm a blogger and freelance writer. I focus on diversity and inclusion, accessibility and visual impairment. I've been visually impaired since birth and became legally blind as an adult. This motivated me to learn all I could about vision loss and how it affects so many people. I wanted to advocate for those people and raise awareness of the issues surrounding..

Makeup may be visual, but it can still boost confidence and be a creative outet for a person who can’t see it themselves. Blind and visually impaired women do wear makeup and yes, we apply it ourselves.
Vision loss can affect anyone, so we blind women are as diverse and unique as our sighted girlfriends. Not all of us want to wear make up. Some of us occasionally like to use a little make up as a pick-me-up or for a special event and others won’t leave the house without it. The point is, I would like blind a visually impaired women to feel like the choice is their own, even with less, or ..read more

Live Well, Live Blind is a series exploring how losing my sight taught me to be happy. You don’t need a moment of impact or an event that changes everything to start to improve your life. You deserve the life you love now.
Last time we delved into living slow. Today, we’ll discover how blindness taught me to live authentically, the benefits of doing so and some simple things you can do to live a little more authentically too,
What blindness taught me
It’s impossible to blend in with the crowd as I wield my cane down the pavement and Voiceover blares out of my phone. I stand out. Over time, bli ..read more

It seems like masks will continue to feature in our lives for some time. Anyone who wears glasses knows how frustrating it is when you’re wearing a mask and your glasses steam up. It’s not just a matter of inconvenience it also compromises safety.

I tried every trick and hack the internet had to offer and nothing worked – until recently. I credit my fog-free status to WSJ online. Live Well, Live Blind: Live Slowly
This year I’m sharing the life lessons I learned through blindness that have made it possible to build a life I love, while my vision fades away. These lessons are not only applicable to people experiencing sight loss as they are not the skills I need to navigate the world without sight. Instead, they’re a set of principles that make that possible, but importantly, they also create a sense of wellbeing and happiness.
Where you may or may not need to navigate the world without sight, wellbeing and happiness are universally sought after and sometimes, illusive ..read more

In previous Beauty and the Blind posts, we talked about how appearance matters to a blind or visually impaired (VI) woman just as much as it does to our sighted friends. In this post I wanted to explore how blind women can own their style. We’ll look at why it’s important and why blindness can make decisions about style harder. Then we can discuss some techniques that blind women can employ when it comes to taking charge of how they look.
Why it’s important that a VI woman chooses her own clothes
We care about how we look, not because we fashionistas (although there are some amazing blind fash ..read more

International Women’s Day 2021
In celebration of International Women’s Day I would like to share the stories of five inspirational women. A woman who campaigned for the rights of disabled people, women’s suffrage, labour laws and world peace, a woman who escaped slavery then helped 300 others find freedom, a woman at the forefront of artificial intelligence, developing technology to improve the lives of blind and visually impaired people, a woman who became an international prima ballerina and a woman who won a gold medal for alpine skiing. These women are from different times in history, diff ..read more
