I have owned every kind of cookware available to mankind and have many in my storage closet today. I have stainless steel from All Clad, copper cookware from Mauviel and non stick from Calphalon. With the death of PFOA cookware I began messing with newer technologies in non stick because non stick is the easiest to use. None of them worked very well after the first few uses. A couple of years ago I bought a couple of skillets coated with what they call "granite stone." They worked... Read more ..read more

Loaf Pans

Since I made bread today and had to get my loaf pans out, thought I’d take a pic or three and see what others have: This one was a birthday gift, probably from 1993 or 1994, from MrsT’s sister, who was living not too terribly far from the pottery works. This one I haven’t had long, but it was my mom’s. I snagged it from her house when she moved into assisted living. This is a Romertopf clay baker, one of those “I didn’t know what to get you”... I opened the oven for the first time in a few months earlier today, only to find that everything in there including the grill shelf and all my baking trays and roasting tins. This was the least affected. What do you reckon? Are they all goners? Can any be saved or would it be safer just not to risk it ..read more

Does anybody use the 1/4 teaspoon measure? And, can you tell the difference?

I posted this question on Reddit, and wow did I get a response: https://www.reddit.com/r/Cooking/s/uzjkj2mpgJ I’ve taken to eyeballing everything. A 1/4 teaspoon of anything is small enough that a few granules one way or another isn’t something I would notice. But, many people of the 52 who responded not only use a 1/4 teaspoon measure, but several use a 1/8 teaspoon measure. Please, if you are in this group, I am very curious to hear your perspective. Some of the things they... Read more ..read more

Hot drink cup/mug du jour

Assuming most people have some sort of hot beverage to start their day, let’s see yours! Today, it’s coffee for the two of us (decaf Highlander grogg for MrsT, cream and sugar, regular for me, just cream): The grey one came from Walmart, the soft greenish one came from Dollar Tree. Both were purchased shortly after we’d bought an afternoon tea cake stand and needed mugs to complement it, though I don’t think we’ve used them for that yet. What’re you drinkin’ from... MEATER Thermometers

Hey guys, I recently saw the MEATER thermometer and while I personally don't own one, it looks pretty cool since it can give you temperatures of food you're making as well as time remaining. However, it doesn't seem feasible for anything you cook on a pan or a pot if you have to close the lid...? What do you guys think ..read more

Electric Skillet

Anyone use an electric skillet? I have an overly expensive one that I bought decades ago. Likes - it’s very heavy and completely submersible. Dislikes - it was more than my car payment when I bought it. About the only time I use it is when I’m making French onion soup, which I’m doing today: I made hot wings in it once that were incredible, but I lost the recipe. Anyone else use one of the used-to-be-kitchen-staples ..read more

The Instant Pot (pressure/multicooker) thread.

Post your Instant Pot experiences here. This isn’t the thread for disparaging remarks about unnecessary kitchen gadgets from folk who don’t own one (oh no no no), it is a thread for people to post their experiences of these mini multitasking marvels whether good or bad. It’s confession time from me. I have the Crock Pot version of an Instant Pot which I’m fond of (although still very inexperienced with) and this week bought an actual Instant Pot mostly to consolidate other kitchen...
