It’s a quirk of Drag Race recapping that the best episodes of any season are often the hardest ones to recap. For our money, the family drag challenge is the best part of every season of Drag Race, demonstrating how the art of drag can be universal, can cross barriers, and can open people up to revealing their own truths or getting in touch with some difficult-to-reach part of themselves. We never would have predicted this and we almost feel a little guilty writing it out, but with the fourth episode of Palm Royale, something became increasingly, uncomfortably apparent to us. The best parts of the show tend to not be the ones featuring Kristen Wiig, which is something of a problem because she’s not just the lead, she’s driving the entire story.
