Typically when I do a travel blog I set it up with a pre-trip blog the week or two prior to set the scene for what’s to come, this is no exception. As I sit here in the International Terminal of Los Angeles International Airport I’m reminded of the path that I took to get here. If you hadn’t guessed by my title, I am headed to the Philippines, once again to dive. The root of which was instilled many years back. When I was in Indonesia back in October of 2022, the group I was with had a few divers who had recently been to Magic Ocean Resort in Anda. It seemed that each time we dive something wo ..read more

I often have a rather hard time speaking my mind or sawing when things hurt my feelings/irk me in a certain way. I’m sure anyone who has been on the receiving end of a conversation with me that starts with “…sooooo…” would probably disagree with that, especially my parents, with whom I have an extra hard time being forthright with, even into my 30s. I allow a moment, or an idea, or a feeling to fester & fester, keeping &/or waking me up at night, & permeating my brain until it all but explodes out of me. This past month, more specifically this past week, I had one of these such mom ..read more

Blog: Watering Dead Plants

As hard as it is, & as discouraging as it can be, sometimes you have to come face to face with the realization that you’ve been watering dead plants. While, yes, I could mean this literally, if you haven’t heard the expression before I’d be more than happy to fill you in. The term ‘watering dead plants’ or ‘watering dead flowers’ stems (lol) from the idea that you are pouring a resource of yours (represented by the water), be it your time, energy, a combination of both, other resources tangible or otherwise, into an endeavor that, despite your best efforts & intentions, will not yield ..read more

Story: Throw Some Perm On Your Attitude

Prior to around 24 hours ago, I hadn’t had a haircut since October. While three months isn’t the longest stretch of time to go without a trimming of the hairs, my hair tends to grow in rather quickly & rather full so I was rocking a mess AF mop. I had an idea, while my hair was at length, to do something new with it. I’m always one who is up for a “hair adventure” & my brain came up with the bright idea that I should attempt a perm. My hair naturally is rather stick straight with only the slightest, tiniest, incremental bit of natural wave, that pops its little head out when salt is in ..read more

I am someone who is often outwardly opposed to the cold. I have stated many times in person & probably on this blog as well that I would be fine going the remainder of my life without seeing another “winter.” Sometimes that sentiment also takes the shape of “going the rest of my life without seeing snow” but it feels like a similar concept either way. I live in the upper end of the American South, & while winters are slightly less harsh here than they were growing up in Kansas where there is nothing to block the wind sweeping from The Rockies across the plains, we still get our share o ..read more

Hello, Happy New Year! I hope that your holidays were relaxing, rejuvenating, healthy, stress free, & uncomplicated. I also hope that you didn’t miss me on the two week hiatus that I took during the latter half of December; I was traveling, seeing family, & even played a show or two. I appreciate you all allowing me the space to do so & having the patience & understanding for those times when I need to dip away for a minute. I always worry subconsciously that no one is going to come back any time I skip a week or so with the blogs, but amazingly so many of you return with your ..read more

Lately my career, specifically where music is related, has taken a turn that I don’t think I expected. For those new here who read that first sentence & said to yourselves “wait, you do music?!” welcome to CharlieRogersMUSIC.com, nice to have you. The turn I seem to have made lives in the writing world, & no, not this writing world, the songwriting one. I’ve been writing songs since I was sixteen, so almost half of my life at this point. I started in my bedroom writing about my life as a high schooler & while a lot of those first songs were definitely not the greatest, I am still p ..read more
