Last night, April 20th, marked my first experience seeing Rawayana live, coinciding with the start of their *Quién Trae las Cornetas? World Tour* at Brooklyn Bowl Nashville. The evening was a deep dive into their latest album, *¿Quién trae las cornetas?*, which has been generating buzz for its eclectic mix of genres and sounds. Rawayana isn’t new to the scene. Originating from Venezuela, they’ve carved a niche in the Latin American music landscape, blending reggae, funk, soul, and rock with Caribbean rhythms. Their journey from the debut album *Licencia Para Ser Libre* to their latest has been ..read more

A Rookie’s Guide to MerleFest
Music City Music Magazine

You’ve been promising yourself you’d make it to MerleFest for years. Now you’ve committed. You have your four-day pass (because who would want to miss a daylight?) Now what? WEATHER Expect all four seasons in one day. The end of April in the South is the epitome of fickleness. It is entirely possible to finish the week with frostbite and sunburn. Dress in layers. Use sunscreen. Wear a hat. Pack boots, socks, and a cheap rain poncho or two. Ray’s Weather is one of the most reliable meteorological sources for the area, but keep in mind that meteorology is one field in which 50% accuracy is accep ..read more

by Nathan Leslie

Sessanta, a celebration for storied vocalist Maynard James Keenan’s 60th birthday made it’s way to Tennessee on April 10th.  Inside the confines of an old quarry, First Bank Amphitheater provided a beautiful backdrop of rocks and lights for the performing acts.  Bringing along two of Keenan’s acts, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer, as well as friends Primus. The unique setup allowed for all equipment on stage at the same time, with a riser in the back for 3 separate drum kits, making for a nearly continuous 3 hour evening of live music.  Each act would perform a few songs, someti ..read more

Chris Joslin, director of the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in Owensboro, KY, introduced the Sam Grisman Project to the stage for the first night of the “Jerry Garcia: A Bluegrass Journey,” noting that Sam “literally has this music in his DA.” Opening with “Thanks, Jerry,” Grisman and his band opened a Grateful Dead-flavored bluegrass jam with “Lonesome Fiddle Waltz” leading into “Shady Grove.” Sam Grisman and Logan Ledger Grisman, the son of legendary Dave “Dawg” Grisman literally wrapped around his upright bass as he played and took lead vocals, maintaining a stream of stories of the origins ..read more

Disturbed: Not Just a Band, But a Movement So, the “Take Back Your Life 2024” tour just crashed into Nashville on February 17, and let me tell you, it was epic. Disturbed, with their latest album “Divisive” causing all kinds of chaos (the good kind), and Falling In Reverse lighting up the stage as only they can. If you weren’t there, you missed out big time. If you’re reading this and don’t know who Disturbed is, it’s time to climb out from under that rock. These guys are metal legends for a reason. With hits that have dominated the airwaves and a live show that’s more of an experience than ..read more

Pantera’s Legacy Lives On
Music City Music Magazine
by Alma Reed

The night before Pantera hit the stage, Nashville was alive with an electricity that made your heart race and your mind whirl. Back in the day, my playlists leaned more towards *NSYNC than heavy metal – worlds away from Pantera’s deep, guttural guitar riffs. Yet, as time went on, “Walk” struck a chord within me, awakening a raw, untamed part of my spirit I never knew existed. That Friday, the atmosphere was perfectly charged by a sky cloaked in ominous clouds, as if nature itself was gearing up for the sonic storm that Pantera, alongside Lamb of God, was poised to unleash. The anticipation hun ..read more
