Bonner Black, one of the best artists that Nashville has to offer. Tennessee native Bonner Black is one of the most underrated and talented songwriters in Nashville. Her unique blend of “Americana Pop” combines the acoustic elements that Nashville loves with a splash of modern pop and a lyrical style that is more realistic and thoughtful than the painful constrains of Nashville's writing machine. I first saw her perform at City Winery for a “Girls of Nashville” show in March of 2020 and have been a follower ever since. I love tales she weaves, the vulnerability she displays in her writing, and ..read more

Our favourite band from the UK, The Trusted, release “Marrow.” We’re suckers for a great pop band - especially one that continues to expand their sound, show a bit of humour in their Social Media, hustle like mad and keep getting better at their writing. Case in point, The Trusted, from the southern shores of the UK. This quartet has been releasing music since 2017, showing incredible depth with tracks like “Arkansas” and “Millennium,” edge with “Doomsday” and “Cigarettes and Chandeliers,” and hooks with “Terrible Fight” and their latest release, “Marrow.” Let’s check it out! We’re in F, aro ..read more

Bennyjeans, Why (Did You Do This To Me) Here’s a prolific pop writer from Pleasant Grove, UT that I found on Wavlake the other day, meet solo artist Bennyjeans. He’s a bit of a ghost on the Interwebs, which only leads to the mystique. All I can tell is that he’s from the 801, and has played a bunch of shows around SLC, solo, and with a band. Every now and then you just need a cool drink of water, a drive with the windows down - just something chill, and that’s what this song provides. Let’s check it out! We’re coming in at about 119 BPM, and primarily moving between the tonic and subdominant c ..read more

“Far Away,” featuring Fameye You’ll have to forgive me a bit on this one, there a several national languages in Ghana and I couldn’t decipher which one Abiana and Fameye are singing in (aside from English), but does it really matter when the vibe is this damn good?! For those of you unfamiliar with how the subtle rhythmic shifts and polyrhythms of West African music can have a massive effect, let this beautiful track be your gateway. Let’s check it out! As the song starts, you get a waltz feel as the first verse sets in. The verse itself is broken up into two parts. Listen to the downbeats pla ..read more

“Be Well,” as heard on “Boostagram Ball - Episode 4” Here’s a great track I heard this morning on #AdamCurry’s “Boostagram Ball” on the Fountain App. Amber Sweeney is a songwriter, vocal producer, singer and resident of Nashville, with deep roots in the PNW. She has an impressive catalog of at least 33 songs listed on the big streamers, and a host of them over on Wavlake. You’re going to be taken aback by the quality and depth of her vocals, “Be Well” just scratches the surface of power. Let’s check it out! Track gets off with a gentle vibe in B flat, around 79 BPM. Beautiful descending chord ..read more

Calling for “System Change” Check out this track from this French band, teaming with deep grooves and raw energy, mandelbro (Man Del Bro?, who knows). Looks like they formed right around 2020 (if you go by their Instagram), and you gotta love the way they incorporate raw funk with some of the modern keyboard tones and techniques, in addition to provocative lyrics that push against the grain. Let’s check out the track! Love the intro, reminds me of junk rock, very loose feel with a beautiful progression. Love those extensions in the piano voicings. You can feel the tension and pressure building ..read more

Empty Passenger Seat Here’s another great artist we found over on Wavlake from Lancashire, UK. Joe Martin has made made a few trips over here to the States to hone his skills, and if he’s going for the laid back Americana feel with great stories, I’d say he’s doing a solid job. “Empty Passenger Seat” is the lead track off a 12-song record he released this year. Track starts in E with a simple acoustic strum and some nice fades in my left speaker from his lead player. Nice build up when the band comes in on the second half of the first, with a good tom beat, healthy analog tones and solid disto ..read more

Part surf, part psychedelic, part rock - meet Calina. Sam Means looks like one of those dudes you wish you could have a beer with. Poking around the catacombs of the Internet, you’ll discover that he toured extensively with The Format, has written soundtracks, runs a merchandise company, has his hands in tech, and continues to release music today. He’s definitely a shining example of the Gig Economy - part wizard, part Renaissance guru, part businessman, but ultimately guided by art. He’s got a boatload of monthly listeners on the major streaming platforms, but we found him on Wavlake, the fr ..read more
