Limits for property damage in multi car accident

Someone managed to hit 4 parked cars in a parking lot. Some are fixable, some are totaled. The insurance on the offending car has a limit of $10,000 for property damage, and basically that sum is getting divided up by the 4 car damage victims. Of course this is not enough to get close to replacing a totaled car and pay for the towing. The insurance company says that’s all they can do. Wondering if this couldn’t be considered 4 collisions, each with $10,000 limit? submitted by /u/Mission_Albatross916 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Got car insurance cancelled due to non-payment

I had my 3 cars under State Farm insurance but I moved to other city (30 minutes away from where I was) and after I changed my address with them, they charged me $500 more every month. I called and they said it was because of the area I am living now, crime rate is high and they gave me a lot of excuses for it. They convinced me to give me a discount if I get the life insurance with them. I search other insurance companies and I found out it was a ripoff. Now I’m with Progressive, I got it the same day I called State Farm and they told me that. Now, here’s the deal. I never paid what they wan ..read more

My daughter & SIL were out of town & the victims of a hit & run (car was parked, & it happened overnight). The damage was around the front driver side wheel area, but they were still able to drive it. It's a 2017 fully loaded Ford Flex with about 80k miles, & they were still paying on it. (They purchased it used with $5k down & had been paying on it close to a year.) They had a repair quote, but once they took it in, the quote went up to around $11,500, but now the insurance is saying it's totalled & is going to pay it off for $22,500. The problem is that they are ..read more

How are Geico’s autopay predatory practices…legal????

I noticed that they were charging me twice in a month while filing my 2023’s taxes so I decided to remove the auto pay feature(2 weeks ago) since I never agreed to pay 2 months in advance via autopay. Now they are penalizing me for removing auto pay by having me pay $600 for May/June…in advance. Again. Just got off the phone with a representative who tried to sign me up for autopay again bult it wouldn’t let her so now I have to pay the $600 insurance bill in full on the 30th. Can they cancel my insurance if I only pay for 1 month? Is this even legal? How is Geico getting away with these kind ..read more

Hello Everyone! So I am in a dilemma here. When I bought my car 2014 BMW 435i last year, I did not know that my situation is going to change drastically like this. So here's my story: I had a full time job and I was daily driving the car, and my insurance was about $1000/ 6 months (Allstate). Fast forward 8 months later, I now have a new job that requires me to travel full time. Now, I only drive the car maybe a weekend every 4 weeks or so. I don't want to keep paying $1000/6 months I think it's a waste of money. Now I also don't want to sell the car because I love it and I put too much perso ..read more

Wreckless driving & car insurance

I recently got a charge for wreckless driving and took it to court (allegedly 106 in a 70). Me and the court came to an agreement and we settled that I will pay a fine. If I remember correctly , they said it would not reflect back in my record. Will insurance be able to see my charges or if I even went to court? I’m a young guy so my insurance is already crazy high and I know I should expect it to double if they can see the charge which is unfortunate. submitted by /u/Alternative_Deer_992 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

When insurance lapses, is it tied to owner or the vehicle?

Hey there, Long story short, I had severe anxiety issues that kept me from leaving my house for almost 3 years. During that time, my vehicle was under my moms insurance and since I was in no place to drive, we talked and my mother cancelled the insurance (without much notice) and we didn't renew the registration but there was a 160 day period between the two. I am finally better, got a new job, and got the vehicle running again only to go to the DMV and find out about this and be told that if I want to register it, I have to pay $750 + registration fees + SR22 (which I just found out what tha ..read more

Will I recover my deductible from a total loss?

Hi everyone! I was involved in a rear end accident that ended in a total loss. I was not at fault & the police report states the involved car was following too closely. Anyways, my insurance paid out (sadly not enough to cover my loan balance). They are in subrogation process to be able to refund me my deductible. They have told me the other insurance company is not wanting to take blame for being at fault. So what happens? I’m only freaking over this because I had gap coverage on my vehicle & they didn’t pay out fully either! I’ll have about $900 left on the loan. So I was depending ..read more

Questions about claims (WA, State Farm)

I was in a car accident yesterday (WA). My car is a 2018 Mazda. I think the damage is repairable and probably not totaled. The other driver is 100% at fault - they blew past a stop sign and I didn't have a stop sign at the intersection. No police report. We both have State Farm. Both cars got towed. No one got hurt. I contacted an auto repair shop that's in Mazda's collision network but is NOT in State Farm's network. The shop warned me that they often have trouble with State Farm - i.e. they resist paying in full for the repair shop's repairs for parts and labor because they use OEM parts, s ..read more
