Three wins from the last four games have put to bed any questions over the Cobblers players being on the beach and we head to Fleetwood Town this weekend looking to push another League One rival towards the trap door. Having confirmed Carlisle’s demotion at Sixfields last weekend, a victory for Jon Brady’s side would throw their opponents to within touching distance of the same fate.   So all the pressure will be coming from the home stands at the Highbury Stadium with six points separating Fleetwood and safety with four games to go. With trips to that blue lot from down the road and Le ..read more

With four games to go, the Cobblers are safe from any relegation fears and the attention now turns to solidifying a top half spot in League One. If we can finish in any of those top twelve places it would be a fantastic return and hopefully that’s enough motivation for a period where we’ll have major parts to play in the relegation battle despite not being involved ourselves.   Carlisle come to Sixfields knowing that defeat for them or a win for Burton Albion at home to Oxford United would confirm their demotion back to League Two. The fate that will inevitably befall the Cumbrians sho ..read more

After last weekend’s superb win over Derby at Sixfields, we can now say we’re safe in League One for another season. If you’d told us that we’d be sitting here going into Easter weekend free from worry when things kicked off in August you wouldn’t have found many Cobblers fans who’d have believed you. But the gritty showing against one of the best sides in the league showed all the strengths of Jon Brady’s side when they’re at their very best.    What we need to do now is make sure those levels don’t drop as we go into a double header against Reading and Port Vale over the next fe ..read more

When the Cobblers trudged off the pitch at Pride Park earlier this season having just been hammered 4-0, a tough League One lesson learned, there was a sense of realism hitting for a side who had punched above their weight for the most part of the season. Jon Brady’s men had not been up to scratch while Derby were right back on their game after a wobbly spell in the few games beforehand.    Fast forward a few months and the two teams have both found their way to a good season based on their realistic ambitions. The Cobblers have been safely sitting in mid-table for a while and The ..read more

With fifty points in the bag, the Cobblers are slowly starting to move towards the edge of the beach with their buckets, spades and windbreaks in hand. Tuesday night’s defeat to Blackpool came about through a lethargic performance at times even if we did put in the graft to try and keep the Tangerines out in the first half. There just wasn’t enough forward thrust by Town to send the home fans away smiling and we’re in need of some energy as we head to a Wycombe side who are, themselves, almost at the point of survival themselves.   There’s no doubt that reaching the targets set in the ..read more

The Cobblers are in dire need of something – anything – to lift the mood after a catastrophic Tuesday night down the road. Form leading into the derby was good with two wins and two draws setting us up nicely for the London Road clash but what happened was the stuff of nightmares. Jon Brady has said that the players and staff are uniting at wanting to put it right as we head back to Cambridgeshire to take on a side under new management once again,.   If we can head over the cow fields and bring back a win, it wouldn’t completely erase Tuesday night but it would at least give us a start ..read more

Back in August, when this season was in its infancy, you’d have to search high and low for anyone who would have both the Cobblers flying in mid-table and Charlton battling relegation. But, after a superb campaign from Jon Brady’s side and a tumultuous one for the Addicks, this is where we’re at for a Sixfields clash that could see us reach a points target that would make certain of a League One place next season.    Back in January, we came away from The Valley with an outstanding 3-2 victory with Louis Appere clinching the three points in the 97th minute and that was the catalyst ..read more

It’s back to the road this weekend as the Cobblers head to Burton Albion for the first time with fans since that memorable FA Cup tie just before lockdown. The scenes that day won’t quite be matched in the away ends on Saturday (the attendance allowed for the cup is a fair bit higher) but if we can exit with a win it would take us tantalisingly close to the target needed for safety.   Both the Cobblers and Burton’s fortunes took dramatic turns after the last time we met back in November. The return of Jack Sowerby from injury helped us to end a six-game winless run that had taken us do ..read more

Midweek ding-dongs for both teams, injury lists as long as our arms and defensive fragilities showing up all over the place – The Cobblers and Bristol Rovers both come into Saturday’s game with question marks but also with the ability to attack it with relative mid-table security in place. For Jon Brady’s team, it’s all about bouncing back from a last-minute defeat at Leyton Orient and building on some of the positives from that night and from last weekend’s home draw with Bolton Wanderers.   There’s the obvious history with Rovers thanks to playoffs, final days and John-Joe O’Toole wh ..read more

After a chastening defeat to Portsmouth at Fratton Park last weekend, the Cobblers return to Sixfields licking their wounds and looking ahead to another game against a promotion contender on Saturday. Bolton Wanderers are the visitors and Jon Brady will be hoping his side can rise to the challenge of beating a team in the current League One top six – something we’ve only managed once all season (but what a lovely one that was!) It will need Sixfields to be loud and proud and to rise to the challenge on Saturday. It needs to be much better than Pompey and we have to come out fighting across ..read more
