Reporting from WEST PORTAL A massive crowd early Monday evening gathered at the site of a fatal crash Saturday that killed three, including a toddler, while waiting at a San Francisco Muni bus stop when an SUV crashed into the bus shelter near West Portal Station. In response to crowding issues amid increasing student need, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is rolling out changes to key Muni routes that serve schools. As students return to classrooms, the SFMTA says these changes are designed to reduce overcrowding and pass-ups during peak hours before and after school. BART begins rollout of $90 million fare gates to stem evaders

BART announced earlier this month where they plan to install its new fare gates, including San Francisco stations. The transit agency first installed the new 6-foot tall fare barriers, meant to prevent fare evasion, at the West Oakland station at the end of December. Weathered, rusty chains give way to featureless metal railing under Golden Gate Bridge

The end of 2023 saw the National Park Service remove the rusty chains along Marine Drive, the road to Fort Point and a known hotspot for photographers to seek photos of the Golden Gate Bridge with the chain in the foreground.
