Bodie State Historic Park is located in the Sierra Nevada in the northern part of California. The word “sierra” comes from the Spanish word, “serra,” which means “saw.” Sierra means a long and jagged (like a saw blade!) mountain range. “Nevada” means “snowy” in Spanish. Bodie State Historic Park is one of the most exciting and interesting places you’ll ever visit, so don’t let the word “historic” make you think it’s boring. What makes Bodie so exciting? It’s a real-life ghost town! That’s right—Bodie State Historic Park is an actual town without any people. The town was started back in 1859 w ..read more

Eating Bodie Style never tasted so good! During the gold rush years, the people in Bodie ate a lot of beans, bacon, ham, dried apples, deer meat, fish, boiled potatoes, biscuits, and pies and cakes made with sugar and molasses. Most farmers had a milk cow. They drank some of the milk and used the rest of it to make butter, cream, and sometimes cheese. A lot of farmers also had a few chickens that laid enough eggs for their own family and to sell to others. Farmers also raised as many vegetables as they could and preserved them to use after the growing season was over. Even people in town had ..read more

Thanks always for following my publishing journey. My second book is now available on Amazon! I'd really appreciate your support with a 5-star review! About the new book Uh-oh! One of the bears in Bodie State Historic Park has found GOLD. Gold was the reason Bodie became a town during the California Gold Rush, but it was also the reason the land and waterways were damaged. The animals of Bodie are worried another gold rush might happen if the humans find out there’s still gold around. But what can a bunch of animals do? Cooperate! With the help of Kiara, the Junior Park Ranger at Bodie, the p ..read more

It’s a ghost town! That’s right—Bodie State Historic Park is an actual town without any people. But that doesn’t mean nothing lives in Bodie Historic State Park or the surrounding area. On the contrary, many different species live in the hills, wetlands, and waterways of Bodie. Birds, squirrels and rabbits are some of the animals that call Bodie their home. --Kindness, comradery, creativity, community, self awareness are the words that best describe my first tradeshow experience as a children's book publisher and mompreneur! A couple of weeks ago, I attended the Public Lands Alliance Convention and Tradeshow in St. Louis, Missouri. This was my first trip as a children's book publisher and mompreneur. I didn't know what to expect nor did I know how my "product" was going to be received by the public lands community. The PLA community consists of 200+ partner organizations, companies and public land stewards. It was overwhelming and intimidating ..read more
