People from Perth to Peterhead could have been forgiven for thinking they had witnessed a ‘UFO’ when a strange, triangular light appeared in the sky last week.
What hundreds of people along the east coast had actually seen was part of the Atlas V rocket launch from California putting the Landsat-9 observation satellite into orbit.

A regional publisher has created a new interactive map of UFO sightings across its circulation areas.
DC Thomson’s recently created data journalism unit has produced the map in partnership with its nostalgia team.
The map allows readers to explore sightings dating back to 1997, including some incidents which were covered by the publisher’s Aberdeen-based dailies the Evening Express and Press & Journal and Dundee-based dailies The Courier and Evening Telegraph at the time they happened.

UK sci-fi series Intergalactic will not be coming back for a second season at Sky, Gabriel Silver, Director of Commissioning for Drama, confirmed today.
Speaking at the Edinburgh TV festival, the exec said the company had been “disappointed with audience figures” for the show, which broadcast on Sky One earlier this year.
Intergalactic follows a crew of female convicts who break free and go on the run. It stars Savannah Steyn, Eleanor Tomlinson and Natasha O’Keeffe.

Google was last night forced to remove images of some of Britain’s most sensitive military and security bases from its Street View service.
The website admitted that it had ignored signs warning that photographing the sites breached the Official Secrets Act.
The installations included Special Boat Service and Special Air Service bases, a Government atomic weapons research centre, top-secret Government eavesdropping centres and MI5 headquarters across Britain.

A teenager who put her life saving skills to the test when a close friend had an epileptic seizure has won an award from the St John Ambulance (SJA).
Shyr-Nai Davison Thomas was named the Regional Cadet of the Year 2014 after triumphing at the national selection event held at Sedgely Park Police Training Centre near Manchester.
The two-day competition saw the SJA’s 30 best cadets from across the country demonstrate their skills, teamwork, initiative under pressure, organisation, presentation skills and leadership during some tough tasks to compete for the regional title.
