My 'BUY-NOTHING-NEW' Year Challenge. One the one exception I made.
The Great Eco Journey

Could you go for a whole year without buying any new clothes? If someone had asked me that a few years ago, I think my answer would have been, “Yeah I probably COULD if I had to, but I don’t WANT to”. Things have changed a lot for me in the last few years though; so when I posed myself that question at the beginning of this year, my answer was ‘Too right I could, and I will!”. I have to be really honest: this isn’t the ‘challenge’ that it would have been a few years ago for me. You see, my way of consuming fashion has changed so much. I spent my teens and twenties with a pretty mainstream shop ..read more

Eco-friendly Sunscreens - what you need to know.
The Great Eco Journey

After nearly three months of trialing, researching and learning, it's here: The Eco-friendly Sunscreen Article! I'm not going to lie, I quickly realised that I had bit off more than I could chew with this one. I thought I could just compare the prices, ingredients, packaging, SPFs and water resistance of the sunscreens, and leave the science stuff to the scientists… but I have learnt that there really is a LOT more to sunscreens than meets the eye, and that science and sunscreen cannot be separated. I have spent many hours lost down a rabbit hole of terms and technologies far beyond my School ..read more

The Great Toilet Paper Trials
The Great Eco Journey
by Juliet Dale

I don't think there are many people out there who just don't want to be eco-friendly. But other factors get in our way, convenience, lack of knowledge, and price. For those of us already attempting to reduce our waste, price is probably the biggest remaining factor. When it came to opting for a more eco-friendly toilet paper for my family, I was a bit baffled... there were the supermarket brands that marketed themselves as 'eco', but all came wrapped in plastic, or there were the two brands that I could order online, one 'naked' and one in very appealing packaging. But what I wanted to know w ..read more

How to encourage others to be Eco Warriors without being a bit... well..annoying!
The Great Eco Journey
by Juliet Dale

Chances are, if you’re reading this, you’re a bit of (or a lot of) an Eco Warrior. I use the term 'Eco Warrior' pretty freely. I think Eco Warriors come in all sorts of forms; from the ceramic keep cup devotee to the op shop queen, from the sourdough starter experimenter to the vegan yogi. From a child who joins the school Kaitiaki Team and uses their reusable straw, to a grandmother who teachers her grandchildren how to mend. There are those who shout their plastic-free exploits from the roof tops (raising my hand for that one ️) and those who quietly read labels to check for palm oil. But ..read more

The Revelation That Stopped Me Curling My Hair
The Great Eco Journey
by Juliet Dale
1y ago
I have dead-straight hair. So, of course, I curl it! As a girl I plaited or made little buns (my brother called them ‘hair-worts) overnight, dappled with perming in my teens and twenties, and until recently I took to it with the curling irons on a regular basis. You can read the full blog here on the Lusid Beauty website. I love that, as part of my job, I get to share about incredible, sustainable NZ businesses. This post is written in collaboration with ,,Lusid Beauty. I only work with businesses that I use, trust and love. The words and opinions expressed are entirely my own. Juliet - The G ..read more
