Asking what bait is best for catching bass might sound like a ridiculous question but there really is a solid answer. Soft plastic baits. Ok, so that is not a super specific answer but the category of baits that is the most effective for catching bass is definitely soft plastics.

Two trends have emerged over the past couple years on the bass fishing scene. The first one is more obvious. Forward facing sonar has changed a lot in bass fishing recently but we are going to stay away from that one here. The other is a trend of more and more anglers fishing with big baits. It’s great to have a dozen rods with different baits on the deck of your boat. Actually, it looks pretty cool. The thing is, though, it doesn’t always help us catch bass. That many combinations will only work if we know how and when to use them.
