It came as no surprise that when K.K. Downing decided to put together a new band, he would look to fellow former Judas Priest member Tim “Ripper” Owens to front the band. After asking the crowd “What’s my name?” The band tore into a blistering cover of Judas Priest’s “The Ripper.” The set also included “Burn in Hell” and the reworked, slowed down version of “Diamonds and Rust” from Owens’ time in Judas Priest. Fairchild engaged the audience with “Pontoon,” another hit that garnered a huge hand, then talked to various people in the audience. Everyone found out they had another trait in common, as attested by the applause for “Day Drinking.” Another common Texan trait was covered when Philip Sweet led the four-time Grammy Award winners in “Hell Yeah,” the Ft. The 100 million-album sellers came back out quickly and the crowd sang “Happy Birthday” to Ian Gillan before Deep Purple kicked the encore into high gear with “Hush,” that lasted several minutes and pumped up the fans to a new level of excitement.
