Homeschooling while you're a working parent can be hugely satisfying but also really draining and exhausting. As a working parent you sometimes have that teeny bit more of disposable income but there's always that delicate balance of spending money or time.  If you can’t have it all, why not turn toward home and make the most of it? Our conversation today involves balancing both money and time in a way that we are intrinsically happy with our decision. Going back to your decision on why you decided to home school will always help you to make the same choice again and again. As with ..read more

Personalising their learning journey is a sure fire way of getting them interested to study with you. You can also make a real life computer game - we hide NERF guns and bullets around the house and they have to run around and find them before commencing their batt ..read more

I'm writing this post at 1am probably because I drank too much coffee today trying to stay awake and do a zillion things at once. Long story short - I was teaching online during a thunderstorm outside and had to ensure all my own kids were actively engaged too. We did it -just about! I wanted to write this post as a reminder we are only human and not to expect too much of ourselves during this time. In particular I want to focus on our teenaged children, and how all this change and upheaval has affected their mental health. It's getting a bit tedious trying to keep the children occupied at home but we've (un)luckily been busy with their schoolwork most of the week. My high schoolers are on zoom meetings now some of the time as well as my husband and I teaching pretty much all day. So a fun activity has been to send the littles off on a little hunt around the house... it keeps them occupied and the game can literally carry on for ages. I was on a facebook group where this lists were shared so i'm shari ..read more

I have had many questions over the past few months about how to set a routine for the children or do things while you live in a joint family system (where the nuclear family lives with the parents and siblings of the father.)  I will preface this by saying many people have deep rooted opinions about whether they could/couldn't/should/shouldn't live with extended family however this article will not be discussing any of those issues.  One of the main bene ..read more

A lot of homeschoolers are in this position and it feels really hard because they have to balance the needs of a newborn (who - let's face it - are high maintenance!) with one, two or even three other children that usually need a lot of attention too.  Most people in your life will insist that sending your older ones to school will make life easier for you... however this isn't exactly true; Home school with a newborn is waaay easier than sending the older kids school as you don’t have the school schedule, pick ups/drop offs, lunches to make, things to remember for art, dress up days, whe ..read more
