As Christian homeschool educators, we have a profound responsibility to guide our children not just academically, but spiritually. In a world where truth is often seen as relative and constantly changing, it is crucial to anchor our teaching in the unchanging truth of God’s Word. Jesus declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6), providing us with a clear directive: the truth we teach our children must be firmly rooted in Him.
Understanding Biblical Truth
Biblical truth is absolute and eternal. It is not subject to cultural shifts or societal trends. The Bible, inspired by G ..read more

Summer is upon us, the curriculum has been the stored, the swimsuits have come out of hiding, and perhaps you’re anticipating some travel and vacationing! If so, I have a tip to make clothes-packing a little bit simpler: enter the packing cubes!
If you haven’t tried packing cubes before, I highly recommend them. I’m a bit of a minimal-ish mama, remember? But minimal living doesn’t mean you never buy items that won’t make your life a little easier or simpler, and these have been a game changer for our travel-loving family of six. I started with a couple of basic sets by Bagail on Amazon, and ha ..read more

Laundry. I may be one of the lonely few who enjoy laundry (kind of), but it may be because of the simple systems we’ve implemented to stay on top of laundry with our family of six. Maybe a strategy or two will resonate with you also.
Declutter
This is a crucial first step. If you have too many clothing options, it’s easy to pull another pair of jeans out of the closet rather than do that laundry because you’re running low. Especially for my children, this has kept us accountable to regular laundry. Each one has about a week’s worth of regular clothing for each season. That may be too sparse fo ..read more

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. As a long-time homeschooler with 20+ years of experience teaching kids with dyslexia, here are 10 truths I want you to be aware of:
1. Your kids will learn to read. Eventually. All kids learn to read in their own time. Our oldest kids, who didn’t have the benefit of all of my current knowledge about dyslexia, didn’t read independently until 12 and took off from there. So, if you’re worried because your eight-year-old is struggling with Bob Books while his or her peers are reading chapter books, take a breath and know that it will come. (And get book ..read more

There are three seasons of homeschooling for each child. The earliest season is when your child begins kindergarten and ends their fifth grade. Next, there is the middle school season where your child may be gifted and is zooming ahead in some or all areas, or your child may be a late bloomer and needs a bit of remediation before he enters high school. (My son was remedial in middle school.) Finally, your child walks into the High School years, which is the final season for both you and your child.
Note: please don’t misunderstand me; your parenting does not end when your child gra ..read more

When my son Jack was seventeen, he found himself in a job he loved. But although he was doing something he was gifted at and something that interested him immensely, it was hard. He was the youngest person on the team and sometimes was not listened to. He was the least experienced at work. It was a demanding position that allowed little room for error, and there were demands placed on him that were sometimes overwhelming, if not unfair, to him.
Are you frustrated with your job of homeschooling? Maybe you’re not educated, disorganized, and feeling alone.
Maybe you feel inept and unknowledgeable ..read more
