This blog is the gravity point for a New Thought reformation. Harv and his contributors explore tough questions about mind metaphysics that are often underplayed in the community. Our blog contributors - including writers, historians, ministers, academics, and metaphysical practitioners from all generations - don't always agree with each other and we are fine with that. We each evolve and..

Ever notice how you relax when a cat jumps on your lap and starts purring? A cat’s purr is just one of the natural sounds that triggers calm.
For some people the experience of hearing a relaxing sound like a cat’s purr is deep and visceral. “I feel like I’m in between the waves of a cat purr- inside the feeling/texture of that space,” writes a friend. “I’m relaxing just thinking about it.”
Relaxation hasn’t been my life. Like anyone I love to meditate and get a good night’s sleep, but my anxious mind can be a three-ring circus with a heap of worries for every one crea ..read more

In times of trouble, religious and spiritual people often turn to their leaders for guidance, support, and comfort. What happens if/when those leaders abdicate their sacred responsibilities? Back in 2020 as the novel Coronavirus began to wreak havoc on everyday American lives, I remember too many responses that hinted at deep problems in a movement that I had been struggling to understand for a few years: organized spiritual metaphysics.
Since 2012 when I first stumbled into a metaphysical center/church, I have experienced equal parts joy and sorrow. In many ways, the period ..read more

New Thought should not be a safe haven for the comfortable
By Rev. Dr. Raymont Anderson
There was a time when those in New Thought — Emma Curtis Hopkins, Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, Ernest Holmes and others — would make bold declarations about living a prosperous life, the nature of God, and emancipation from suffering. They did not water-down what they were teaching to make people comfortable.
Here is a striking example. In 1945, Science of Mind magazine listed The Third Church of Religious Science at the bottom of the church directory and noted it was a “colored church.” This was unacceptab ..read more

Do you want more out of your life?
The Law of Attraction and manifestation practices can do wonderful things, but they don’t always work. In this interview, Royce Christyn, author of Scripting The Life You Want, explores new science that inspires innovative and powerful practices to make more of your dreams come true. He even talks about a simple app connected to a quantum computer that can fast-track syncronicities in your life.
Manifesting your Dreams
The first part of my interview with Royce honors quantum physics insights and looks to even newer scientific discoveries to explain how our m ..read more

This week the shit got real.
Along with the unprecedented suspending of major league basketball games, shuttering the lights of Broadway, and closing hundreds of college campuses, churches of all denominations from New Thought to Catholic, are making the tough decision to cancel in-person services and go online.

This move did not come without controversy. In the New Thought community there is a divide between those that see the moves as protecting the most vulnerable in our community and those who see it as turning away from cherishe ..read more

Let’s cut to the chase. Life is a casino and shit happens.
That’s essentially the Tao of writer/director Quentin Tarantino who is both lionized and reviled for his thoughtful and violent films.
New Thought’s dictum that there are no accidents, that our consciousness creates everything we encounter in life via the Law of Attraction, cuts directly against Tarantino’s world-weary view. It should not because there is something important in Tarantino’s understanding of things.
What if we have the ability to create some parts of our lives through thought causation, but not every thing ..read more

People are scared.
Many report that they feel as though they were “living in the twilight zone.” Others report that they feel that they’ve become trapped in a dystopian science-fiction story, or a fairy-tale in which an entire kingdom has become spellbound by a tyrannical wizard.
I have heard people say that they haven’t felt such a visceral reaction to the state of the world since the fall of the Nixon administration or since the war in Vietnam. Like people who have lost loved ones, many awake in the morning in a state of grief. It is fitting that the phrase

When it comes to manifesting our dreams, many of us have been taught it’s something we really need to work at: daily affirmations, vision board, prayer, etc. What if it’s much easier than that?
I’m writing these words on the balcony of our apartment in Paris.
Six months ago I wrote a post, “We Make the Road by Walking,” about my wife Diane and I making new dreams come true after the toughest 18 months of our lives. We were preparing to go to Europe in spite of the fact we’d used few formal New Thought practices to realize our dreams.
Since that post we’ve been to Barcelona, Lisbon, Flo ..read more

In “New Thought Dilemma,” Harv Bishop describes a premise underlying many of our teachings: the belief that “you create your own reality.” The logical inference is that each person is responsible for the circumstances of their lives—the good and the bad. Using this as a foundational belief leads to a further consequence: it nurtures a radical form of individualism within New Thought culture. As Mitch Horowitz has observed, a belief in individual responsibility and a desire for self-improvement is great—but it can lead to a “blissful indifference” regarding the fates of other pe ..read more
