Having been a teenager in the 60s, I am very familiar with Social Activism.  But what about Sacred Activism?  How does it work, and what is ours to do as a sacred activist? As a teenager, I was against racism, violence, and the VietNam war.  I identified more with hippy thinking (I was not into drugs and free love but believed in most of the rest).  But as a New Thought person, I needed to rethink the value of activism while living in a place of love. Then I read Raymont Anderson’s July Science of Mind magazine article:  The Business of Us All. Here is an excerpt from ..read more

When I was in the fundamental Christian movement, we were told we needed to ‘die to self (or ego)’ to allow Jesus to guide our life. Letting Spirit guide us in all we do is a proper perspective. But does that mean we reject our ego? Is there a place for both ego and spirituality? Ernest Holmes, in the Science of Mind textbook, describes ego: In metaphysical terms, the Ego refers to the Real Consciousness of man.  In psychology it carries a slight variation of interpretation, implying an organization or system of me.  In this textbook we frequently use it merely to convey the thought ..read more

I have been pondering what is mine to do concerning our country’s volatile issues. Since I have always considered myself a pacifist, what is my role? Are New Thought and social activism compatible? While pondering, I discovered an excellent article by Rev. Dr. Durrell Watkins, president of the Divine Science Federation board of directors and Senior Minister for Sunshine Cathedral in Florida. Here are some excerpts from his article: Is New Thought Compatible with Social Activism? by Rev. Dr. Durrell Watkins (Divine Science Federation) Nineteenth century Metaphysical practitioners began as heale ..read more

When I was active in the fundamental Christian Movement, we had a saying:  “So heavenly minded that you are no earthly good.” At the time, observing heavenly-mindedness meant that the particular person seemed so focused on ‘getting to Heaven’ that they were not functioning much on earth as humans nor relating to life in the world. Over the years, even after I left the movement, I heard and saw people I thought were too heavenly-minded. It seems their only focus was to find more ways to earn their way to Heaven. It didn’t make sense to me. When I was a little girl, my mother used to tell m ..read more

With Easter on Sunday, I want to share some special thoughts and quotes about how Easter and the Resurrection are expressed from a New Thought perspective. “Every time we rise to the realization of eternal, indwelling life, making union with the (God)-Mind, the resurrection of Jesus takes place within us. All thoughts of limitation and inevitable obedience to material law are left in the tomb of materiality.” ~ Charles Filmore, Unity Church co-founder   “Nature celebrates a season of resurrection and new life whenever the temperatures rise or the rains fall. The butterfly leaves its earth ..read more
