Audiobook Review: Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door by Lucy Score

What a great kickoff to the series! Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door is wonderfully entertaining. Lucy Score has a knack for taking flawed, stagnant, down-on-their-luck heroines and transforming them into plucky, confident winners. Riley Thorne is an absolute delight. I loved her dry and self-deprecating sense of humor. I was constantly amused by the journey of her coming to terms with her psychic gifts. The murder mystery is secondary to the huge cast of colorful characters. I loved Nick Santiago, the macho private investigator who quickly falls for Riley’s quirky charms. Gabe, Riley’s ..read more

Review: Accidental Attachment by Max Monroe

Accidental Attachment is my first Max Monroe book, and boy did it leave a smile on my face. I was thoroughly entertained by Brooke, an author, and Chase, her editor, working together to publish Brooke’s spicy romance that Chase has no idea is based on him. Brooke is hilarious and quirky, which makes the banter between her and Chase even more delightful. Their chemistry is everything. I also liked Chase’s sister, Mo, and the way she’s such an extreme fan of Brooke’s. It reminded me of the way I fangirl over authors when I attend book signings. Benji, Brooke’s superhero service dog sidekick, alm ..read more

Audiobook Review: A Long Time Coming by Meghan Quinn

A Long Time Coming is not just my favorite Cane Brothers book, but–dare I say–my favorite Meghan Quinn book so far, hands down. I’ve got hearts in my eyes, a swoony sway to my body, and a massive smile on my lips to prove it. I’ll be honest. I have issues with the friend-to-lovers trope. I don’t like it when characters have been friends for ages and then out of the blue they notice that their best friend looks hot in a bikini, so now they have to date them or die. Um… hello? Did you just develop eyeballs? Surprisingly, this trope worked for me in A Long Time Coming. The depth of Lia and Breake ..read more

Review: The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy by Megan Bannen

The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy is a whimsical romance set in an alternate universe. I don’t read much fantasy, and I certainly had no idea that fantasy romantic comedy was a thing, but apparently it is. This book is quirky, for sure, and I liked it. There isn’t a great deal of world-building—just enough to get the gist of the characters’ lives but not enough to create a full image in my mind. One thing I dislike about fantasy is being drowned in details. I guess you could say this book is a happy medium for me. Mercy Birdsall is the temporary undertaker at Birdsall and Son until the “son ..read more

Drama King gets the award for Most Entertaining Meet Cute and Most Cuddly Main Character. It’s an all-around fun story, especially for lovers of slow burn romance. I find something really satisfying about a bodyguard falling in love with the person they are dedicated to protecting. In this case, Beth is the bodyguard assigned to guarding hunky movie star Cyrus. It seems impossible that they could ever work as a couple because they are total opposites. Rather than being a Hollywood diva, Cyrus is a puppy dog—so stinking sweet and fun. He lives impulsively in the moment, without regard for any f ..read more

Review: Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend by Penny Reid

Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend knocked my socks off with its unique and highly entertaining take on fake dating and enemies turned lovers scenarios. Winnie and Byron. *sigh* Halfway through the book, I closed my Kindle and shouted out loud, “I love these characters!” #truestory The fact that they are so different appealed to me. Winnie is a poor middle school science teacher who uses social media to inspire girls to pursue STEM careers. She’s a vivacious people person whom everyone loves, but the one person she dislikes is Byron. Byron is a brilliant and famous bestselling author and a s ..read more

Review: Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood

On the heels of Ali Hazelwood’s breakout hit,The Love Hypothesis, Love on the Brain had a lot to live up to. I’m pleased to say that while I didn’t love it as much, Love on the Brain is still quite enjoyable. I like how Hazelwood portrays women in STEM as quirky and fun. It seems to be her storytelling signature, and it’s right up my alley. Love on the Brain isn’t one of those dark enemies-to-lovers stories where the main characters are cruel to each other before falling deeply in love. Instead, with a relationship built on a ground of misunderstandings, there is a playful animosity between Be ..read more

The cover of Beauty and the Baller caught my eye, the synopsis made me instantly want to read the book, and the story kept my romantic heart entertained throughout. Struggling to recover from the sudden death of his fiancé and facing the end of his illustrious NFL career, the two share a one-night stand that does not end well. I enjoy a good surprise pregnancy story, and I love sports romance. Put them together, and Those Three Little Words should form a perfect union. With Meghan Quinn’s humor, I either love it or I hate it. When she reels in her tendency towards over-the-top humor, I love it. And I was laugh-out-loud loving this at first. I was vibing with Penny’s awkwardness and her nonsensical verbal diarrhea. But then I hit the halfway mark, and what was charmingly amusing veers off into OTT humor territory. Penny becomes this raving lunatic who is rambling on to her parents about which sexual positions she’s u ..read more

I’m pleased to say this series hasn’t lost its momentum and I really enjoyed The Redhead Revealed, the second installment. Grace and Jack try to keep their romantic spark alive while managing a long distance relationship as their careers keep them on separate coasts: Grace in NYC working on an Off-Broadway musical and Jack in Hollywood doing press tours for his new movie. The relationship between Grace and America’s newest heartthrob is still a secret from the public – much to Jack’s displeasure – and as Jack’s popularity increases so do Grace’s insecurities. Of course the fairy tale couldn’t ..read more
