I’m in a reflective mood this week. Asked by a reader about how to recognise other kind people at work, I got to thinking about the kind experiences I’ve had, as well as what kind people say and do, as finishing up by thinking about what I do most mornings to start my day kind. It’s all here. So, let’s get to it. Read the full post over at Substack.     The post What good things have happened to you so far this week? appeared first on The Kindness Corporation ..read more

Breaking Down Barriers, Building Bridges, and Deepening Trust

I am humbled. I am humbled by the people I meet who are kind to their core. Who do work that has kindness at its centre. Who create companies where kindness is why, what and how they are. And, because of this, the people there thrive and create a positive impact on the world. I am humbled by people who literally take kindness out into the streets to help people less fortunate than themselves. These people truly Work better, live more. #Workkind. It isn’t some idea or philosophy for them. It isn’t some company initiative. It isn’t a bit of charity on the side. It is who they are. Kind. Today is ..read more

Every piece of data we’ve examined, every piece of research we’ve conducted, and our practical experience working with leaders have taught us that all Kind Leaders share a set of beliefs, values, qualities, and behaviours. They may not have defined them all to themselves, but they exist; the data shows that these beliefs, values, characteristics, and behaviours are always present, individual by individual. That’s why, this week, we’re encouraging you to think about whether you are a shepherd or a wolf and why you should “Be More Tree.” Read the rest of the article here at Substack. Toxic Workplaces and the 3 Truths That Helped Me Leave One Over the last three years, I’ve worked with over 30 organisations and thousands of people. Kindness has helped us deal with the uncertain times of a pandemic and is helping now as we are all dealing with a volatile world, an uncertain economy, and increasing pressures to return to the office and work in ways that don’t suit us well. When times are tough, we need all the support we can get at work. Kindness does that. Read the rest of this article here at Substack. This week I share a brief story of how Sophie (not her real name) finally got around to a mindfulness practice after burnout finally got too much. I look at the lenses through which we see work and how they shape our thoughts, decisions, and behaviours. And I share a practice that helps us close the week well. “The best job in the world…until it wasn’t.”
The Kindness Corporation Blog

It was the best job in the world…until it wasn’t. I was waking up every weekday and wishing I hadn’t. My first thoughts were of the upcoming workday — the conflicts and meetings that would take up my time and leave me with no time to do my work — too much work that the team and I were expected to complete in too little time and with too few resources. Every day was stress, anxiety, and overwhelm. I was burned out. Struggling. Not giving my best at work. Or in the rest of my life. Family and friends looked on helplessly, not knowing how to support me but wishing they could. Work can and should ..read more

Read on to learn more about these characteristics, see if you are a shepherd or a wolf, and why you should ‘Be More Tree’.   Once upon a time a wolf had ..read more

Workplace kindness- it’s all magnets and paperclips

Sure. We can cite mathematical formulas and data- social science, physical science and neuroscience as proof points for prioritising kindness in our workplaces. It’s powerful stuff, but at the end of the day, workplace kindness boils down to magnets and paper clips. Understanding how a magnet works is key. It’s the force created when atoms are in alignment that attracts things with common properties. For example, paper clips. Alignment= Force= Pull. The massive range of emotions and energies we share:  love, hate, stress, fear, anger, trust, bias, patience, anxiety, rage, generosity, posi ..read more

We’ve gotten kindness wrong
The Kindness Corporation Blog

Kindness in business is as logical as peanut butter and jelly. Butterfly collars and disco. Movies and popcorn. Labs and tennis balls. Perfectly paired as they are, kindness hasn’t made it onto the corporate main stage- yet. It hasn’t been widely valued or well adopted. or embedded into the DNA of work, even though we have clear and objective data that proves how kindness positively affects us and the way we relate to one another and work together. The reason for these oversights is simple. We’ve gotten kindness wrong. Kindness has been hiding in plain sight. This humble human competency packs ..read more
