Trauma Healing Network had a Healing Retreat in Walvis Bay from 2-4June 2023. The participants were given the opportunity to connect with God on a personal level, reflect on their lives and assess their coping mechanisms. The Retreat was a special time devoted to the participants to practice spiritual and emotional self-care. The facilitator (Charlotte) mentioned that during one of the coping exercises ‘taking your pain to the cross’, she observed two of the participants hugging each other. On the 16th of May, Trauma Healing Network (THN) launched our Children’s Emotional Program called A Story of Four Friends(S4F) in Outjo. The S4F program is designed to help children aged 5-9 become more aware of their emotions. It is important for children to develop the correct vocabulary to express themselves and be able to identify their own emotions as well as the emotions of others. We were privileged to donate Bibles to the homeless and less fortunate people at the Khomasdal Homeless Development Organization (KHDO) as part of our free Bible Distribution project. The KHDO is a non-profit organization that has been offering services to the homeless and less fortunate since 2012. They do outreach services to the community by feeding the homeless with a warm plate of food three times a week at the Khomasdal Community Hall. “The Healing Retreat was a blessing to me, it simplified the issues surrounding trauma, and it adequately outlined the foundation for dealing with and healing from traumatic experiences. I went to a psychologist for months over the loss of my child, to arrive at the same outcome that I did in 3 days of attending the Healing Retreat. During the Retreat, we did an exercise involving the timeline, the exercise was a game changer for me, simple and yet very effective.
