The Manitowoc-based Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity assumed sponsorship of Clement Manor, a Greenfield-based senior living community, through a transition from its long-time sponsor, Milwaukee-based School Sisters of St. Francis. The two distinct Franciscan orders and the leaders of their nonprofit business entities have been discussing the sponsorship change for several months and recently reached an agreement on the details.  The new commitment by the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity is effective as of April 1. Both the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and the Diocese of Green B ..read more

Catholic Herald
by Colleen Jurkiewicz

Give Us Shepherds Several months into his new assignment, Fr. Edward Sanchez is finding himself at home among the communities of Immaculate Conception and St. Augustine of Hippo in Bay View and Sacred Heart of Jesus in St. Francis. “There’s a lot of life here,” he said of the parishes. “There’s a real sense of investment in the parish family.” This is your first assignment as an administrator — what’s it like being the one in charge? It’s a big shift. Before (as an associate pastor), you’re kind of seeing the guy who’s making the decision — the pastor — and you talk with him about it, but in ..read more

While he awaits word from Pope Francis on his retirement, Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki continues his work at the archdiocese. (Photo by Chris Plamann) If there is one thing those close to him have learned over the past 14 years about Archbishop Jerome E. In the month since submitting his retirement paperwork to Pope Francis on March 12 when he turned 75 years old, Archbishop Listecki has received even more attention and praise. “I’m grateful for the kind words and I see the kindness in many people,” Archbisho ..read more

Flooding on Tuesday, March 26, put in jeopardy Holy Week services at St. Alphonsus, Greendale. However, the parish community responded quickly and the Paschal Triduum went on without a hitch. (Submitted photo) Holy Week is a hectic time for any parish as preparations get underway for the liturgies that mark the most sacred few days of the Catholic year. But the community at St. Alphonsus in Greendale had a surprise element of chaos thrown into the mix this year — a flooded church just days before the Paschal Triduum. “I just kind of stood there and took it all in, and tried not to panic ..read more

Young Adult There is a thing that happens to me sometimes on Easter Sunday. It does not happen every year; it didn’t this year, but when it happens it can be hard to cope with. Sometimes on Easter Sunday, I get really, really sad. Of course, there are different reasons that this can happen. Undoubtedly, some of the times when I was a child and had an Easter meltdown, it was mostly due to the sugar crash. Then, too, Lent and Holy Week match the reality of our messy lives really well. Dry prayer lends itself to being in the desert with Jesus. Grief puts us right next to him in Gethsemane. Any ..read more

Herald of Hope On April 25, we will celebrate the Feast of St. Mark, Evangelist. Mark appears in various places in the New Testament. The Acts of the Apostles speaks of “John also known as Mark,” in whose mother’s house Christians gathered in prayer. (Acts 12:12) Mark was a cousin of Barnabas, and he accompanied Paul and Barnabas on a missionary journey after the Council of Jerusalem. (Colossians 4:10; Acts 12:25) He is mentioned in the letters of St. Paul, as well as in the first letter of St. Peter.
