Colstoun Blog

1y ago
Kim & Robbie were married at Colstoun in 2017, I first published this blog a couple of months after that date and it was one of the most popular posts ever published on our old blog. As a result of that I thought it was only fitting that I repost it on our new blog, we are so glad that they agreed to share their story and some of the beautiful memories they have from their wedding at Colstoun.  1) How did you find out about Colstoun? what made you choose us as a venue? We spent hours, days and weeks trying to find a venue that was unique and one which would provide a different experi ..read more

Colstoun Blog
by Mackie

When you think of Italy you most likely think of food, probably straight away your mind jumps to pasta and pizza, for us you can’t get much more Italian than home made pasta. I’ve included a Ravioli recipe in our 12 weeks of recipes because Pasta making is a fundamental part of our Italian Cooking day course and its one of the reasons why the course is so popular. Ravioli has been around since the 14th century and is simply an Italian dumpling made of pasta with a filling that normally includes ricotta & spinach. We really want to demystify the art of making this dish, which is perceived ..read more

Engagement Season
Colstoun Blog

It is amazing to think that the middle of January is arguably the busiest time for the wedding industry. We are right in the middle of what is known as “engagement season” where between November and February nearly half of all engagements happen. More amazing is that nearly 1 in 5 proposals happen on just ten days each year including Christmas Day and New Years Eve. We are just about 20 days away from our first wedding of the year and then we are in to the heart of it all once again. but between now and then it is our busiest time for wedding enquiries. Our website numbers double every day for ..read more

Top 10 Wedding Photos of 2018
Colstoun Blog
by Mackie
1y ago
The end of November is my favourite time of year. I get to look back at photos from all the weddings at Colstoun and choose 10 photos that I think are AWESOME. Compared with last year I’ve had a lot more photos to look at and a lot more photographers to choose from. Just like the videographer blog from this year I’ve tried to choose range of styles, price points and not just the photographers I would like for my own wedding. We are so blessed at Colstoun to be surrounded by amazing landscaping and so many wonderful trees. This year I’ve chosen photos that place an emphasis on being outside and ..read more

Simple Beetroot Mousse Recipe
Colstoun Blog
by Mackie

Beetroot Mousse appeals to me on a number of levels, it is visually stunning, it is really tasty, it is full of local & seasonal ingredients and you can make it really easily! You can dress this recipe up and serve it with a whole host of things, but i think that spreading the mousse over a loaf of rustic homemade bread fresh out the oven roughly chopped up is pretty difficult to beet (pun entirely intended). At Colstoun Cookery School we use ingredients that we've grown ourselves or that we've bought from local producers such as Yester Farm Dairies for our Cream, and Mungoswells for flou ..read more

Being in the heart of East Lothian, we are lucky to be surrounded by beautiful countryside, sandy beaches, and the Lammermuir Hills, as well as idyllic villages full of lovely pubs and churches. It sounds like a great holiday, don't you think? We thought so, and we have officially opened two cottages for self-catering accommodation. Dovecote cottage is a 2-bedroom cottage with a spacious kitchen and a living room. Located 50m from the walled garden and on the coach house courtyard, this cottage is the perfect retreat for a small family or two couples. Gardener's cottage is the ideal option for ..read more
