Our ‘Forget Me Not’ session today was run by Dementia Club and Barnet Walking Football Team at Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre. The session kicked off at 1:00pm in the spacious sports hall with Shaun leading our members through a set of stretches followed on by a fun egg and spoon race which Lisa’s Rutter our Chairman kindly brought. Members were concentrating and trying very hard not to let the plastic balls fall off the large red plastic spoons. A circuit of activities was set up and with the help of all our Walking football volunteers and Keren our members were able to freely move around at ..read more

Faz ran today’s busy session at Friend In Need. Colouring sheets and word searches were placed on the tables ready for our members. It was wonderful to see our members getting busy and concentrating on their colouring. Colouring is a great way to relax your brain and help your body to relax. Next we all participated in a game of bingo. Playing bingo helps to sharpen cognitive focus and increase hand eye coordination, at the same time it also a lot of fun!. We had 2 lucky winners today who both very excited to receive Easter Eggs as prizes. Our very own James Le Bec joined us for the a fun fill ..read more

Our monthly session at the Hendon golf club was led by Keren. We always get a full room of members at this venue, it is so bright and airy. It’s overlooking the golf course and very comfortable. Also the staff look after us so well with delicious teas and cakes. As there was no exercises today, so we had extra time to do a super fun quiz of Family Fortunes. Everyone worked in small groups around their tables, deciding which would be the most popular answers to go for. We had some lovely prizes for the winners and a tie break for the runners-up. Well done everyone! Mike was then there to entert ..read more

Today was our second Barnet Walking Football session held at Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre. It was a pleasure to have Shaun and his team leading the first half of the session. Our members were led through a set of simple stretches as they joined in with familiar football lyrics. This week our members were guided through some football drills which included slowly moving forwards whilst gently kicking a ball in front of them and football themed ball pass practice. In addition, Lisa decided to introduce to the members some more social activities in a circuit around the hall. There were various ..read more

Today’s session at Friend In Need fell on the same day as Martin Luther King day which is observed on the third Monday of January in America. Although MLK day is not celebrated here in the U.K Faz was inspired to use today’s special day to ask our members to write down a personal achievement and / or a dream that they have. It was particularly heartwarming reading out the special memories that our members shared. From wanting to end global warming to being proud of the dresses and blankets once stitched, this was a positive way to reignite our memories and our future hopes for 2024 and beyond ..read more

Happy New Year to our 20 joyful members who attended our first session of 2024 at Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre. Today Faz who was running the session asked members to see how many words they could make from the words ‘Happy New Year’. Together many words were found including paper, pear, where, prawn to name a few. How many can you think of?. Rachel led the group next with a great exercise session. We clapped our hands and swung our arms in the air like monkeys hanging from a tree. Thank you Rachel for creating a wonderful buzz in the cafe this afternoon. Dr Rebecca kindly attended today’s s ..read more
