This thread is for news/opinions for 2011 WNBA season. Even though the Sacramento Monarchs franchise is no more , we can still keep up with what's going on with the former Monarchs players/staffers and in the world of women's b-ball.
Regretfully, I'm going to start off with a bit of tragic news...
Former WNBA player Margo Dydek is (as of this writing) in a medically induced coma after suffering a heart attack in Australia. She was also three months pregnant when this happened.
Thoughts and prayers go to Margo and her family (she has two young boys).

Four years ago today, it was announced that the Monarchs were ceasing operations. I'm still not over it. The Maloofs better not find themselves walking the streets of Riverdale, Georgia, is all I'm saying.
And, as far as the rumored reason for killing the Monarchs? To devote those resources to making the Kings more competitive? Well, it's four years later, and the Monarchs are still dead, the Kings still suck, and the carpetbagging Maloofs are out of the pro sports business. So, how'd that work out for everybody ..read more

After missing the entire 2019 WNBA season, Rebekkah Brunson ends all speculation, and officially announces her retirement, joining the Minnesota Lynx coaching staff. Brunson retires as the WNBA's all-time leading rebounder, and with five championships, more than any other player in WNBA history.
Seattle's Courtney Paris is the only remaining active player in the WNBA who ever played for the Sacramento Monarchs ..read more

This can only be good news for the WNBA: first time since the early 00's that the NBA has allowed them to negotiate outside of the deal that they have with ESPN and Turner, and they ink a deal that will put them on TV an additional 40 dates, and provides revenue to the league that will hopefully allow them to raise players' salaries.
Hopefully this will be the first of a set of viable options to NBA TV for WNBA coverage, especially since Turner Sports has made it crystal clear that they have nothing but contempt for women's basketball, ever since they acquired NBA TV from ..read more
