Karen Eubank is passionate about improving children’s lives and loves that she can make a difference through raising service dog puppies. Her most recent BluePath charge was yellow Labrador June, who graduated to formal training in May. Karen describes June as one of the sweetest dogs she’s ever worked with.   Karen is a teacher and regularly brought June for visits to her elementary school. It was rewarding to observe how easily her students bonded with June; she noticed how the dog not only brought calm to the classroom but also helped to facilitate connections between the childre ..read more

Favorite Part of Puppy Raising: Working and communicating with dogs is really special to me. I love the bond between a puppy raiser and a puppy as well as the general bond between humans and dogs; there is a lot of unconditional trust and love in these relationships.  Favorite Memories with BluePath: One of my favorite memories was meeting volunteer fosters Jim Brown and Marianne Devine in Binghamton when I picked up Connie to take home. They were so kind and told me how much fun they have with their foster dogs.  Words of Wisdom for Prospective Puppy Raisers: When raising a puppy ..read more

How it All Began: Deborah Kennedy and BluePath Levi I raised 3 guide dogs prior to raising Levi for BluePath. When my daughter, who does equine therapy for kids with autism, brought one of our dogs to work, she told me how the dog motivated and comforted the kids. Then I decided I wanted to raise puppies for this cause.  Favorite Part of Puppy Raising: I have loved watching Levi grow and transform from puppyhood to now. It is wonderful to see how much he has learned. I know that the family that will get Levi will be lucky to have such an amazing dog. Favorite Memories with BluePath: I lo ..read more

The Flaherty Family and Jillian. How did you get involved with BluePath? My friends, the Flaherty family, told me all about BluePath. They have been involved with the organization since its inception. I first learned about BluePath when I met Kaitlin Flaherty’s service dog and companion Chester. It is so wonderful to see how they care for another. Chester is a great source of support and comfort for Kaitlin and is such an intelligent, good boy too. I decided to help the organization that has helped my friends and provides a much needed service to the community. Favorite part about volunteer w ..read more

How it all began: We have raised six puppies before, all with another service dog organization. Our daughter, Kate Peterson, worked with them as a trainer before joining BluePath. One day we got a call from her asking if we would consider raising another puppy. Favorite part of raising Penn: Our favorite part about raising Penn was that he was so affectionate. He would love you and lean against you. If we were sitting down at night watching TV he would come over and put his big ol’ head on your lap. I also enjoyed the training aspect of it. It was wonderful to see the light bulb go on over his ..read more

About Dana: I work as the Director of Hearst Media’s in-house photo studio. I love dogs but my work schedule makes it tough to puppy raise; instead I volunteer my time using my photography skills. It has been a wonderful experience to shoot the graduation photos of these special dogs before they start their journey with their new families.  How it all began: I’ve volunteered with BluePath since the beginning. Michelle Brier has been my closest friend since high school and I’ve had the privilege of seeing what these amazing service dogs do for families, and also all the hard work and pass ..read more
