I almost deleted this website but then I met someone at the dog show who mentioned she had read one of my articles and I thought, why not come back to the interwebs. What have I been up to? Well I added a third to our pack. Meet Bar None Mr. Higgins Swaggers With Panache! Born April 2, 2022 and now an AKC GRAND CHAMPION! He was just over 4 pounds and shy of 12 weeks old when I brought him home. So many life changes occurred during that time. Not only was he a bundle of energy (still is), my social media accounts were hacked, and then with all the scammers, and AI written articles and never-en ..read more

It’s that time of the year where the community of Pet Bloggers get together. It’s also a time where I feel like I’m giving myself an “annual review” of what I did based on what my goals were versus what I actually did. Why Does My Boston Terrier Like To Sleep Under Blankets?
Maggie Loves Orbit Blog
by Maggie Loves Orbit

I’ve had three Boston Terriers. One has her angel wings, and the other two are young adult pups. And out of the three, two prefer sleeping under the covers.   I always wondered why they do this.   And while there are limited scientific papers on this topic, here’s what I found out.   Why Do Boston Terriers Love To Sleep Under The Blankets? Boston Terriers have a smooth short coat. Naturally, this means they are more exposed to the elements. Couple that with their internal body temperature dictates if they sleep over or under the covers. Bostons that run hot like t ..read more

Why Is My Dog Running Like Something Bit Her Butt

Boston Terriers are wiggly active dogs. They are known to run around wiggling their back half end and are even known to go upside down on their back waving their paws in the air without a care in the world. For the most part, this behavior is normal… except for when it’s not. Two weeks ago, my younger Boston Terrier Orbit started to wiggle upside down more than usual as if something was itching her back. We thought it was cute, but two days later, this behavior turned more frantic. She started to run around the house in hyperdrive as if she had the zoomies but also as if she was running away f ..read more

Maggie has a benign lump on her shoulder. As soon as I found this out I went into cancer prevention mode. I was already feeding Omega’s to help against inflammation and learned it might help her in her case. But how is linked to helping prevent cancer? In this article, I’ll go over the reasons you want to include it in your dog’s diet and the sources for Omega-3. Why Should You Feed Omega 3 to Your Dog To Help Fight Cancer? Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) participate in the resolution of inflammation and have anti-inflammatory effects.  In a 2019 study published in the Journal ..read more

Fear-Based Health Care
Maggie Loves Orbit Blog

I ran across this article by Dr. Dennis Thompson about how health care was “fear – based”. You see this every day when you get reminders to: Bring your dog in for their annual vaccine booster shot. Or in the case of humans, go to the pharmacy for your annual flu shot. When it comes to food, you’ll see fresh feeders state things like: Feed fresh food to prevent your dog getting cancer. Feed fresh food to prevent your dog from suffering from allergies. Words matter and energetically, this approach feels contracting. In his article he shares: From a truly holistic perspective, we need to lo ..read more

The Unlearning

Every week I meet over a hundred dog owners face to face at our local San Diego Farmer’s Markets. Together with Ruby from Real Dog Box we’ve been talking to dog owners about how to feed your dog better by adding food to your dog’s diet. Ultimately we’d like to see dog owners feed raw but we know that path will be long. Unlearn What You Consider As Dog Food Most of the people I meet in the local community have never seen anything other than kibble and milkbones. When I show them what kind of real food they can add to their dog’s bowls their eyes get as large as saucers. Can dogs eat “THAT”? I g ..read more

33 Reasons You Should Not Feed Your Dog Raw Food
Maggie Loves Orbit Blog
by Maggie Loves Orbit

Let’s face it. Most veterinarians do not think you should feed raw. I get it – it’s not for everyone. The main objections veterinarians have are: There are no scientific studies to prove it is beneficial for your dogs. Raw food is resistant to antibiotics, so it’s not worth the risk. You could poison your dog, yourself, your children, the elderly, and the immunocompromised by feeding raw because of e-Coli and salmonella.  So, where do I stand on this? If you’ve been following me a while either here or on our Instagram, you will know I am a raw food advocate.   But raw feeding ..read more

I Wish I Never Gave Apoquel To My Dog

I first wrote about Apoquel in 2016. Fortunately, I tend to research everything and discontinued it after I read that dogs under one year old (which she was at the time) should never be given Apoquel. Since then, dog owners have been connecting with each other to share their negative experiences with Apoquel. I’m also becoming a better dog parent and learning what to look for so I’m sharing what I know so that you can make an informed decision if you are looking at Apoquel for your own dog. Read Apoquel’s Drug Insert Pamphlet I don’t recall if I was even given the drug insert. It would have be ..read more
