This is Joker. He was the first dog, not the last, I adopted from MidAmerica Boston Terrier Rescue. He was 5 years old when entered my home. I drove halfway through Nebraska to pick him up. He had allergies which resulted in him getting a steroid and allergy shot monthly but all worth it. He became my service dog after a bad car accident leading me around my home. He knew instinctively where I was going. I started out in a wheelchair and finally graduated to a cane 6 months later. He always jumped up on my right side into the recliner to hang out. When I came home from the hospital 2 weeks ..read more

“Giving your time and heart to the rescue is one of the best things you can do.” I have been fostering with MABTR since 2008. I went to a fundraiser for MABTR and got hooked! I never saw so many Bostons in one place! I picked up a brochure on fostering and the rest is history! I also volunteer with fundraisers such online auctions, garage sale, and Boston parties.  So many ways to be involved and hep out. I got involved first and foremost because I love the breed. After attending an MABTR fundraiser, I decided I wanted to help by becoming a foster home.  I have fostered more th ..read more

Sometimes no matter how much we try their little bodies can no longer fight. R.I.P. Maverick May 2021 to March 2024 At the age of 2.5 years old Maverick was dropped off at a local shelter in KS in September 2023 as the owners could no longer care for him. We knew upon arrival he had a history of seizures but no details. Not til we experienced a cluster of seizures did we get the full history from his original owners which his first seizure was when he was just six months old. I cannot express how important medical history is for shelters and rescues. Share as much as you can that way we ar ..read more

Little Bit was retired from a breeder in 2023 at the age of three. Her family had her for one year struggling to potty train her so she was turned over to MABTR in early 2024. We diagnosed her with crystals in her bladder which more likely the root cause of her potty training challenge. We changed her over to Science Diet c/d. A couple of weeks in our care she stopped eating and started to vomit. It started on a Friday so when Monday rolled around we were at the vet where x-rays were done to find she had an inguinal hernia. Unfortunately our Topeka vet had no time to do the surgery so we t ..read more

Gus was eight weeks old when turned over to MABTR in March 2024 by a breeder due to a heart condition. After extensive testing he was diagnosed with PDA. This heart condition can be corrected allowing him to live a long, healthy life. We were able to raise the funds of $4600 plus needed for his surgery in only 48 hours. He underwent heart surgery at 18 weeks of age weighing in at 6 pounds on April 5 at the Iowa State University. They were able to go through his hind limb artery placing a clip on the blood vessel. His recovery is no activity for four weeks. He is in a petless foster home for ..read more

Have patience and space in your heart for a boston consider fostering one. We have been volunteers with MABTR since 2016. We started by adopting our first Boston in 2006 and have been hooked ever since.  We stay involved because we love the breed.   We volunteer as foster parents and we’ve helped with transportation.  We have fostered 10 bostons to date. Located in MN we are not that busy but always available.   The greatest challenge as foster parents is no matter how much info is shared about a dog prior to their arrival a lot of the details are missing or in corr ..read more

Fostering and volunteering for a rescue has its rewards. I’ve been fostering with MABTR since 2014. I started when my son’s girlfriend had adopted a puppy from MABTR. I immediately became a Boston Terrier lover. I had just lost my Golden Retriever at 15.5 years old, so I was not ready to adopt so I thought fostering would be a good way to get my dog fix without the commitment of getting another dog. At first, I thought fostering was not for me as I quickly became attached to the dogs. It was hard to let them go but with time and experience I found it was easier as I saw these dogs getting the ..read more

Tula was 3 years old when turned over to MABTR by her family that could no longer care for her or afford her vet bill to have her luxatting patella repaired. She did not like putting any weight on her leg so surgery was warranted at this stage. Surgery was scheduled not too long after her arrival and she recovered well. Now she is walking on all four so surgery was a success for her. MABTR's total medical bill for Tula came to $964.88 (which includes a discount). Her MABTR adoption fee was $400 which is based on age, not our investment in her care. MidAmerica Boston Terrier Rescue Second Chan ..read more

Foxy was released to MATR in October 2023 by a breeder at the age of 6. Not only did she need the basics like being spayed and a dental cleaning but she also had a hernia to be repaired, elongated pallet to be repaired and nostrils expanded. Foxy recovered well and finds breathing to be so much easier especially during play. MABTR's total medical bill for Foxy came to $728 (which includes a discount). Her MABTR adoption fee was $275 which is based on age, not our investment in her care. After losing our first Boston Lacy, I knew I was hooked on the breed. I started researching Boston Terrier rescues and immediately found MidAmerica Boston Terrier Rescue. We adopted Nellie and then I decided to foster. We were fostering for a while and then came Widget. He was a stray who landed at a local shelter.   We got Widget and we immediately fell in love. I go to work on Monday, and I get a text message from my husband. It says, “Were you thinking of keeping Widget?” I immediately write back and tell him no. Per my husband we were already at our limit with two. (We’d have a LOT m ..read more
