The title match of the 2024 GIBA Ebonite Winter Classic began like a titanic battle between two great champions and ended in a train wreck that left Nate Stubler a survivor as much as a winner. The left-handed Stubler started with a double, a pair of 7-pins he converted, and a 4-bagger, while Darin Bloomquist converted a 10-pin and a 2-8 and then fired a 5-bagger. A 278-268 finish seemed possible. But in the eighth, Bloomquist left a 3-6-10 that he converted. That gave Stubler control of the... subscribe to read more ..read more

The reality of the PBA Tour is that it’s both a marathon and a sprint, and you have to win both to be a champion. The marathon is the dozens of games of competition to get to the championship round. The sprint is that championship round. In 2023, E.J. Tackett won both more than anyone else and his five titles earned him PBA Player of the Year for the second time. In 2024, Tackett has been the best at the marathon, but has failed in the sprint and it’s left him winless despite making... subscribe to read more ..read more

Since the 2013 USBC Open Championships drew 10,253 teams at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, the only Open Championships that have reached 10,000 teams were 2017 at 10,122 and 2019 at 10,440, both at South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas. The COVID-19 pandemic canceled the 2020 tournament and cut entries to 7,609 in 2021 at South Point, with a rebound to 9,317 in 2022 again at South Point, and 9,565 in 2023 Reno. Many bowlers love to complain about the tournament being held in Nevada so... subscribe to read more ..read more

Through four tournaments on the 2024 PBA Tour, Bill O’Neill won a major, finished fifth in a major, and was sixth and second in the other tournaments — a formidable start for 2024 PBA Player of the Year. But when he lost a roll-off to miss the cut to the top 32 at the 2024 Just Bare PBA Indiana Classic, he opened the door for other contenders to close the gap and perhaps even pass him. And three POY contenders put themselves in position to win, as E.J. Tackett, Marshall Kent and... subscribe to read more ..read more
