WRONG TURN

Wrong Turn is one of those films that I couldn’t remember if I’d seen it before or not. Either way it was a great ride for a lonely winters night with a few beers to keep me company. Wrong Turn features the incredibly cute Eliza Dushku, which instantly won points with me! Reason enough to buy it just for that. Filmed in 2003 this one predates the Remake of “The Hills have Eyes”. I can’t help but wonder if this film prompted the remake of said film. It has a similar feel to The Hills have eyes and shares many of the same plot devices like the inbred / mutant hillbillies that go around killing ..read more

BEST CANNIBAL MOVIES What are the best Cannibal movies you ask? Well I can only give you my opinion but I’ve watched a lot of horror movies in my time! The genre hit is stride in the late 70s / early 80s and to this day have provided some of the most extreme horror thrills for gore hounds willing to track these things down! CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST – THE BEST OF THE CANNIBAL MOVIES First up is Cannibal Holocaust the milestone by which all cannibal flicks have been judged. It’s also the milestone by which they will be judged for a long time to come. Known as one of the most extreme films ever its a ..read more

CANNIBAL: THE MUSICAL

After a scorching day at work in the Australian heat I was looking for something that didn’t require too much thinking. Cannibal The Musical looked to be just the ticket. The Creative team behind Cannibal the Musical were then unknown commodities and film school buddies, Trey Parker and Matt Stone. The creative pair who of course went on to produce the South Park series. The film itself was widely panned and no one would touch it. Even in the straight to VHS market. Enter Troma to the rescue. Even though now the guys had a distributer they found they couldn’t get the tape into shops. That was ..read more

SLAVE OF THE CANNIBAL GOD (1978)

Slave of the Cannibal God (Also known as “The Prisoner of the Cannibal God”) is another of the fine tradition of Italian Cannibal flicks. This one has all of the usual traits such as nudity, animal cruelty, natural violence and of course cannibalism. I find this one to be one of the more watchable of the genre. It doesn’t have the same violent extremity as say Cannibal Holocaust but still weighs in fairly heavily on the depravity scale. This one would have been rather graphic at the time. This one was one of the earlier films of the genre basically after Man from Deep River (1972). THE PLOT ..read more

EATEN ALIVE (1980)

Eaten Alive is another one from the vault of politically incorrect over the top exploitation flicks from the late 70s/early 80’s. This one directed by Italian director Umberto Lenzi. Lenzi was also responsible for Man from Deep River (widely regarded as responsible for starting up the Cannibal film genre and featuring a few of the same actors as this film) and Cannibal Ferox after this film. With that pedigree you know you’re in for a wild ride! THE PLOT This one follows the story of a wealthy cotton farm heiress, Sheila who is investigating the disappearance of her older sister. Sheila suspe ..read more

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2 (1986)

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (a horror classic in its own right) was loosely based on a true story of a series of Texas killings and based on the life of Ed Gein. Not sure how accurate the retelling of said story was but in this the sequel. From my understanding the original took a LOT of liberties with the truth. This time the plot departs further into a more twisted gruesome tale of mass killings.  The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 , Takes place 13 years after the still unsolved murders portrayed in the original film the characters have had time to de-generate even further than in the ..read more

Cannibal Ferox / Make them Die Slowly is another in a long list of Cannibal / Exploitation films. Again this one is fairly high on the gore scale and sits in a similar place to Cannibal Holocaust. THE PLOT The plot this time revolves around two female university students who venture into the South American jungle. One of whom is writing a thesis attempting to disprove the ‘myth’ that there are cannibal tribes in south America. Whilst there they meet up with two other westerners Mike and Joe. Whilst Joe seems alright, Mike is a cocaine addicted sadist and has already garnered the wrath of the ..read more

EAT (2014)

Well then. Eat is certainly a different take on the horror genre. It exists somewhere between a drama and horror flick (with some moments of extreme gore). This is a very interesting watch indeed. Even if you don’t particularly like it you have to admit, it’s unique. The film itself focus in on a young lady, Novella who is trying to make it in the world of acting. Novella has just hit her 30’s, hasn’t had a role in years and has run out of money. She’s now at the point of eviction.  Basically life is slipping out of the grip of miss Novella at a rapid rate. Stress takes its hold and she ..read more

Cannibal Holocaust the now legendary icon of cinematic gore, was originally released in 1980 or sometime around then. This movie was from what I hear banned in more places than it was allowed to be shown. I have to say it’s one of the more extreme films ever created. In terms of gore and violence for both its time and even now, it still manages to curdle the blood. THE PLOT   Based on the story of a group of journalists who have aquired footage of collegues who have gone missing in the south american jungle. they too venture in after their collegues to research the indigenous tribes and ..read more
