Four times a year we look forward to seeing what the new trends will be and, if you’ve watched trends for more than a few seasons, you know “what goes around comes around.” Yes, history repeats itself in the world of fashion, too!
Around here, we’re more into vintage fashion (obviously!) than we are into keeping up with the latest trends. But that doesn’t mean that trends have no place in a vintage lovers closet. In fact, so many trends borrow from the past that you can dig into many a vintage closet and find things that “on trend” without shelling out for designer pieces, or resorting to fast ..read more

Eleven million tons.
That is how much clothing and textiles Americans throw away each year. Eleven. Million. Tons. That’s about 81.5 pounds per person per year, and over 2100 pieces of clothing every single second! That’s… well, it’s crazy is what it is.
So why is a blog devoted to vintage style even writing about this? Because I (and plenty of others) see how vintage and other secondhand garments can actually be part of the solution to this problem! After all, if vintage lovers like us weren’t walking around in “old clothes” chances are they’d be in the landfills too!

“Where do you get all your stuff?”
I get this question All. The. Time. So does every other vintage seller I know!
My stock answer is… Everywhere! I’m never not looking for good vintage pieces.

The reality is there is not just one place I pick up vintage clothes for resale, no magical warehouse of treasures where I can simply place an order. The thing is, I get the vintage clothing I sell from the same places you can get them, too!
Now before I delve into where you can buy a vintage outfit, I gotta set your expectations appropriately. Because it’s pretty darn rare to ..read more

When you think of classic 1950s style makeup, red lipstick is probably one of the first things that comes to mind. After all, nearly every picture we see from that time features a smiling woman with ruby red lips!
1940s Max Factor lipstick ad with red shades chosen for hair colour.
This look has stood the test of time, and modern vintage and pinup styles are still capped off with a red lip. But which red is best? The reality is, the same red lipstick will look different on different people and there isn’t a single red shade that is universally “perfect”.

To be beautiful “naturally” requires a fair amount of makeup, at least according to the August 1956 issue of ‘Motion Picture’ magazine. This article features advice from Clay Campbell, a Hollywood makeup director, who worked for Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox, and Columbia Pictures throughout his long career. His makeup credits include the likes of Gidget and the Donna Reed Show, and he amassed a huge collection of lip prints from some of the era’s biggest stars. Weird collection, but I guess it makes sense for a makeup artist!
