Ireland are sending five youthful teams to this weekend’s Small Countries Association Championships in Perth, Scotland. Three Women’s teams will compete, lead by UCD’s Fiona Lamont and Trinity College’s Lara McNichols. Team 2 is the u20 pair of Grace Moloney (Naas) and Laura Connolly (DVC) whilst u17 double act Angela Mulcahy (Dalkey) and Aoife Burke (Santry) will be getting their first taste of SCA Beach. In the Men’s side u20 pair Ciagan Davoren (Galway) and Liam Corcoran (Trinity) will use the experience to prepare for a trip to Latvia and the u20 Euros next week. Ireland will send 12 athletes from the East and West Regional Beach Development Centres to compete in Cardiff this weekend in the U19 International Open Inter-Beach Championships. Liam Corcoran and Conor Kelly made history today, as the first ever Irish players to compete at the age group European Beach Volleyball Championships. The pair’s opener was a 2nil defeat to a strong Croatia in sweltering 35 degree heat, before an agonising 3-set loss to Northern Ireland (16-21, 23-21, 13-15). That defeat left Ireland, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Greece and Croatia out of the tournament with Kosovo and Slovakia progressing to the main draw, and the main square area in Timisaora. Earlier this year Volleyball Ireland was selected  as one of only nine NGBs to help launch the new HER MOVES!   Her Moves is designed to inspire and support more teenage girls to be active. VLY Beach Tour 3* Returns The Volleyball Ireland VLY Beach Tour 3* Finals returns to Bettystown Beach, Co. Meath this weekend, with Ireland’s top teams battling it out to move up the rankings table. 3* Statement: Over recent days we have continued to monitor conditions for the event this weekend. Two things we are certain of is that the forecast continues to fluctuate over what we might expect on Saturday and Sunday, and that Saturday morning’s forecast continues to deteriorate. However, we are committed to completing the end of season 3* event, and will do our utmost to ensure the delivery of a credible competition. This may mean alterations to the planned format.
