Hey guys, have done 2 weeks worth of ttm on a young lionfish I just received. Was originally doing 48hrly changes while I assessed his condition and looked at skin sheds under the scope. Found these. Assumed it was velvet when it didn't clear up with 48hrly changes so brought it to 36 hrs. There is less of them but still persist in skin sheds. Am I looking at velvet or just some other random flagellate of no consequence? Being a lionfish I am not prepared to do a skin scraping so am...

Hi everyone! So I'm just finishing up recovering the tank from SCA dinos after 2 months and while I can only find maybe 1 or 2 SCA in three or four slides (yay!!), last night I found the oddest thing I've ever seen in my tank. Some sort of tube creature that looks like it has two tentacles and is hunting by randomly springing from it's tube. I'd guess it's a good guy and it appears it's eating round things, maybe dinos which can be seen in it's stomach. Anyone have any idea what this...

Hey guys, recently had a long battle with some very stubborn Prorocentrum Dinos, which I eventually banished by siphoning out the sand (thoroughly rinsed in fresh saltwater and put in the sump for now, to preserve some bacteria) and upping the nitrate and phosphate. Over the last week I have noticed some dark golden blobs of stringy thick snot and I thought oh no, here we go again. This time on the rocks not the bottom. Took a sample and looked under the scope - they don't move, are far...

I'm 99% certain that there is Uronema in my tank. I've sent off a TankDNA kit, so should know conclusively in a couple of weeks. I'm not sure that the video that I captured is Uronema or something else?
Then to get rid of it ..read more

I did a skin scrape again this afternoon to check the progress of my tuskfish who was going through ttm for velvet. I was surprised to see a lot of what look like roundworms writhing amongst the mucous that came off in the scrape. Also a load of what I thought were eggs but look sciliated, and some other random things including what looks like ich. Looking for other opinions as I'm not confident in my ID's here. Thank you!
Pic 1 - roundworm?
Pic 2 - egg capsule or cyst of some kind and...

Currently doing ttm on an adult Harlequin Tusk Fish I just received who seemed dull and lethargic. He's halfway through, eating ok - so far so good. I took some samples of a bit of mucous slime left in the last ttm tub tonight and checked it under the microscope. Found a scary number of parasites that at first sight I thought were uronema as they were quite zoomy. But after reviewing some microscopy ID videos again, I'm seeing a lot of whirling and not as much bumper cars. Thoughts...

My uronema fish have been in observation (plus treatment for gill flukes) for almost two months now. I noticed that there hasn't been much feces left to test by mid day, so this morning I tested again and found these critters for the first time. I'm guessing they're eating the waste. The good news is I still see no uronema (5 negative fecals since July 10th). I'm hoping to get them into the DT today. I just want to double check that this is a normal critter and nothing to worry about. They...
