Governor Josh Green approved the use of $33 million in state funds for the state match plan for the Broadband Equity Access and Development (BEAD) grant program on Friday, April 27. Eight programs will be funded with this grant which will have a statewide impact on ensuring Hawai‘i’s goal toward universal broadband access.
Total funding for the BEAD program is expected to be a $205,091,121 with $144,484,493 coming from the federal government, $46,356,628 coming from state government, and $14,250,000 being made available from private and in-kind sources. It is expected that the Legislatur ..read more

Kaua‘i and the world celebrated Earth Day on April 22 – but for groups like Hoʻomalu Ke Kai, Earth Day is every day.
Members of the local ocean conservation nonprofit on Wednesday exhibited one of their latest initiatives: An upcycling facility capable of transforming plastic marine debris into building materials and more.

Tommy Cox of Kapa‘a High School was praised for expanding access to college-level courses, career academy pathways and Career and Technical Education programs.
Cox was named the winner of the 2024 Masayuki Tokioka Excellence in School Leadership Award at the Public Schools of Hawai‘i Foundation annual dinner Thursday evening.

The Board of Land and Natural Resources is expected to make a decision on leases for Coco Palms land during its meeting on Friday, April 26, as both the developer and a community group trying to stop the hotel development are competing for rights to the Wailua property.
