I'm Elisabeth - a 30-something DC native who loves food and wine as much as I love fashion. I started this blog a little over 9 years ago (the dark ages of personal style blogging) with the purpose of documenting my sartorial antics in the nation's capital. In addition to stylish experimentation, I love to travel, cook, and explore the greater DC metropolitan area.

wearing Brochu Walker layered v-neck, vintage silk skirt (similar), Sezane loafers, and Strathberry bag
Maybe it’s the 90s child in me, but I’ve always loved the look of an untucked button-down under a sweater. But get the proportions just right without looking bulky can be tricky. Brochu Walker’s layered v-neck is just the throw-and-go solution I’ve been looking for. This all-in-one top makes getting that perfect fall layered look a snap and it’s way more comfortable, too. I love how warm and soft this sweater feels! It’s easy to style with slim cut jeans or flared pants, but I think it look ..read more

If you asked me 10 years ago if I’d even consider wearing a leather skirt to work, the answer would have been a solid “no.” But times have changed, workplace dress codes are (significantly) less stuffy, and I’m certainly not complaining!
If you’ve been on the fence, consider dipping your toe into the “office leather” pool with this very classy, very appropriate faux leather skirt from Brochu Walker. I was honestly amazed by how many ways I could style it. Three options below…

wearing M.M. LaFleur silk dress, cardigan, and Strathberry bag
It’s hard to believe fall is just around the corner when it still feels so much like summer. Thankfully I am in no way ready to put away the “new” pieces I just picked up a couple weeks months ago.
I started a new job this spring and the M.M. LaFleur DC showroom came to my rescue (as they often do) with a collection of pieces that are both office appropriate and commuter friend ..read more

wearing Ronny Kobo Collective dress, Ela Stone necklace, Strathberry bag, and Tamara Mellon boots
Here are 5 of my favorite recent dinner outfits for a night out, a get together with friends, a cozy evening at home, and everything in between! These are usually the outfits I have the most fun with. I love playing with bold colors and prints like this cobalt knit dress or this scarf print turtleneck. Or sometimes it’s as simple as adding a cute sparkly shoe like these mary janes to an otherwise classic cardigan and jeans combo. Since we’re in a transitional season where temperatures fluctuate ..read more

It’s that time of year again! Holiday parties are popping up like a game of wack-a-mole and coming up with multiple festive outfits can feel a bit overwhelming. My season started early, so I thought I’d share a few holiday party outfit ideas with tips for re-creating them using items you might already have in your closet. I sorted them by occasion, since the spectrum of formality can be tricky to navigate!

New school year, new drop off looks! I started sharing these outfits last year as fun way to see what I can come up with in a pinch. I walk my son to school almost every day, so the shoes need to be comfortable and the clothes need to be layer-able. This year’s MVPs have been my much-loved Chuck Taylor’s, Ganni boots, pleated white jeans, wide-leg khakis, and this cozy cardigan (I have it in multiple colors!).
You can follow along with my drop off looks and I’d love to see yours! Just tag them on social with #dropo ..read more

wearing M.M. LaFleur silk dress and trench (c/o – 20% off with code DISTRICTOFCHIC20), & Other Stories sandals, Chanel bag, Krewe sunglasses, Sophie Blake rings, and Lola Rose watch
This date night look was very much inspired by Michelle Pfieffer and the super chic working female heroines of the 90s. Something about the effortless chic of a trench thrown over a not-too-fitted silk dress just exudes confidence and cool. This M.M. LaFleur silk trench is an extra special piece to add to your evening wear collection. It drapes gorgeously and finishes off a trouser or sheath dress look with an ..read more

wearing Mejuri earrings, A.L.C. blazer, Rebecca Minkoff top, Lola Rose watch (c/o), Sezane jeans (c/o), GIA x Pernille Teisbaek sandals, and Strathberry bag
A slight chill enters the air and all of the sudden every influencer freaks out and starts ordering pumpkin spice everything and throwing on knits like their lives depend on it. Am I any different? Not really. So this is the part where I tell you stuff I can’t wait to wear this fall. But would you believe me if I told you these are things I already own? Well it’s true. It’s always been my goal to invest in pieces I’ll wear year after year ..read more
