I measured a very nice large home on Friday. It's going to have a wide plank LVP throughout. After drawing the layout, I went around with my 6' angle aluminum straight edge..... Oh dear The slab has 1/4 inch wide saw cuts about 10 feet both directions. Some may have been separate pours. Where they meet, some edges have curled up a little or one side sunk a little bit. The home is 36 by 75 and only 45' is concrete. Where the wood framing and concrete meet up, it's fine. The slab joints... Read more ..read more

Concrete fireplace hearth – what are my options?

I have done a lot of research about concrete and how it's possible to finish it. I did a quick water droplet test and the concrete does not seem to absorb the water, the drops pool on the surface for a long time, maybe 20 minutes. Specific questions: - Would staining the concrete be an option (to avoid paint, which I've been warned about many times)? If so, do I need to etch the surface before staining it? - If etching is necessary, what's the safest / simplest way to do it, since it's not... Read more ..read more

Any idea why this new garage floor turned out like this and how it can be made to look similar to the rest of the floor? Concrete contractor said it was because the sun was blocked by the retaining wall during the curing process ..read more

I'm in the process of patching and skim coating the basement, and one of the pillars is sitting on a rock or something, and I'm trying to figure out if it would make sense to try patching and coating it using concrete, or if there are any extra concerns I should be considering ..read more

Advice Needed: Removing Swirls from Polished Concrete Floor

Hello everyone, I'm reaching out for some expert advice regarding a unique issue with our new home's polished concrete floor. The floor has distinct black color, but there are visible swirls on the surface that are about 1 mm thick. I'm not sure what they are - possibly from a densifier or a top coat? I'm considering sanding down these swirls and restoring the shine by progressively using diamond resin pads of increasing grit levels. However, I'm concerned about potentially altering the... To redo completely or repair

I'm trying to decide whether to redo a gypcrete floor underlayment completely or just repair what I can and go with it. We have a third floor condo that flooded, the living room floor now sags about two inches to the center. It was inspected and is structurally ok. The gypcrete that is currently laid down is intact but softer than it should be. To contract a company to come repour the entire floor, they want $5350. Or I could cut out the areas that are sagging the most and fill in the worst... Read more ..read more

I am building a 1500 square foot pole barndominium as a shop and Mancave. the concrete floor will be fiberglass reinforced with sawed control joints. About 500 sqft I want a high polish, the remaining 1000 sqft will get a mild grind and densified&sealed surface to resist stains. I want to rent the machines. Can anyone recommend the size/ capacity of the grinding machine needed? Can anyone suggest a rental vendor that would send the machine(s) to Southern Illinois? I will do all the grinding...
