Unknown Rangefinder Viewfinder

I recently purchased a box of goodies which ended up containg mostly odds and ends of what was someone's Leica collection. Lots of filters, hoods, that kind of thing. Also included was an odd collapsible pop-up viewfinder which I believe likely came from a rangefinder of some sort, although I have never seen one like this. I guess of could also be from a folding camera perhaps. Anyway, I have included 3 photos for you to see and would appreciate any feedback as to what camera it belongs to... Read more ..read more

Buying a Zeiss 25mm ZM lens - big price disparity - why?

Hi Everyone, I want to buy a Zeiss 25mm ƒ/2.8 ZM lens. The USA new price is about $1300 with warranty. But several vendors in Japan (and, maybe, USA) are offering new in box or like new in box units for $700 or so, or about half. What am I missing, why is there such a spread? Has the USA price drastically increased recently? Or is there a glut of used Zeiss merchandise? Should I pay an extra $500 or $600 for the peace of mind for a warranty? I have read the warnings about the Zeiss wobble... Read more ..read more

M Mount 50/2.0 Lens Similar in Size to Minolta CLE 40/2

A new to me M3 is currently sporting my favorite lens, the Minolta CLE 40/2. That lens is soo small, light and a perfect ergonomic match for the M3. Great all day lens but I don’t expect accurate framing using it. For accurate framing on the M3 I have a M-Hex 50/2. But its as large/heavy as a Leica 50/2 version 5. A more reasonable sized optic to the 40/2 but about 90 gm heavier is my 1956 collapsible 50/2. Its a great character lens but not as sharp as the Hex. However the 1956 optic... Read more ..read more

Leica m3 DS winder on keeps winding moving the lever after 2 strokes.

Hi, I purchased an m3 that has no stop in the winder. Is this normal? The winder on dual stroke keeps “winding” moving the lever after 2 strokes. The left one is working one. The right one is the one which the lever keeps moving. The film is not winding. Just the lever ..read more

Hey Guys, I'm considering getting a 75mm Leica M lens. The current new lenses, the f2 and the f1.25 are both out of my price range. Have you used any of the earlier models? What did you like? Thanks. -Rob ..read more

Zorki 4K and canon LTM lenses

I bought a cheap Zorki 4K to use with my Canon LTM lenses since my Canon has a shutter problem and the only one that fits is the 50mm f1.8. The 85mm and the 135 mm won't screw in all the way. Anyone aware of this and did I buy the wrong camera ..read more

Leica M5 - leather half-case/strap recommendations ?

Any recommendations on leather half-cases for Leica M5? I can likely find a high quality strap, but half-cases are a few, some don't look too good IMO. Not looking to spend a ton on one, but it does have to be quality craftsmanship and good fit with hopefully front parts not "peeling" away from the body after a few months (sometimes from new ..read more

Dear all I am mainly a 6x6 TLR user though I also occasionally still use my 35mm SLRs. I'm finding I'm enjoying a lot the quiet TLR experience and the fact that I can easily get sharp shots at 1/15th of a second with my TLRs, something I've rarely been able to do with my SLRs. I would like a similarly quiet, simple experience in 35mm and I'm tempted by the world of 35mm rangefinders, which I know nothing about. Which robust, compact and reliable rangefinder would you recommend? The... Read more ..read more

Question about bright line finders, barracks and eyeglasses

About a year ago, a bought an m2 locally, and after having used it quite a bit, I'm not sure I don't prefer my IIIc. As I have advanced to old geezer status, I find that with 35mm 90% of my shooting is with a 50mm lens. The finder in the IIIC is well known squinty. So here is my question; with eyeglasses, if I get a bright line finder will I be able to see the whole frame without removing my glasses ..read more
