Trying to be as vague as possible but anyway, I’m a non-traditional premed, work the front desk of a healthcare clinic, am also a mom. I’ve missed maybe a handful of days of work (shit, if that) in the past year bc of childcare. My spouse can work from home if needed, like if our kid is sick, so when I say I can count the days I’ve missed on one hand, I mean it, because it’s rare that I even have to miss work. I miss less work than people who work there and don’t have kids. I’ve never been casually late; I’ve only been late if I had a dentist or doctor appt or something, which I avoid at all ..read more

I have helped take care of my grandmother who has late-stage dementia for years now. I've read online on other websites that AAMC does count this sort of thing as clinical experience. Just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience, and if schools might not weigh this as heavy as patient care experience in an actual clinical setting (EMT, PCA, CNA etc.)

Honestly, this whole process is overwhelming - even more so with most people submitting 20+ applications. I have 1 state school and about 4 or 5 other schools that I’m interested in and have stats that are slightly above their median acceptances. Is it bad to only apply to these schools that I’m interested in?

As a premed student, I've always been fascinated by the intricacies of the human body and the complexities of the immune system. But my recent discovery of a Zinc allergy has given me an even deeper appreciation for the role of medicine in our lives.
It all started on a ski trip, when I decided to switch things up and wear a plastic belt instead of my trusty metal one. Little did I know, this seemingly harmless fashion choice would result in a newfound allergy that would change my life forever.
But as any good premed student would do, I turned to my trusty textbook, Human Clinical Immunology ..read more

I see so many people on here or SDN casually mention full-ride scholarships to medical schools and I just wanna know how do you even go about qualifying for one? Like all the schools I’ve been accepted to offer very limited merit aid, at most 10k/year as far as I can tell. So how do people get full-rides? Is it school specific? Is it really very few people but so many of them mention it online that it’s an availability heuristic?

Hello people who are likely far smarter than me. Just would like some input as someone who is jumping on the Premed train later in life.
Little backstory, I’ve recently found my love and interest in medicine and really weighing that I want to be a physician most likely Emergency Medicine.
Little backstory, I would be the first person in my family to pursue this. I was never the best student in world and never really cared for school until recently. I went to a CC not knowing what I wanted to do and completed an AA that allows me to transfer for a stem bachelors at any calstate or UC with a 3 ..read more

Over the next few weeks, we here at AMCAS will be doing a series of Q&A’s with some of our hardest working folks. —
Hi everyone, I’m Tim! As head of Personal Statement Review (PSR), I oversee a team of people that are tasked with the mind-numbing job of having to screen the “personal comments” section of each applicants Primary Application. Most of our job consists of making sure any mentions of “pediatric neurosurgery” within a personal statement causes an immediate and automatic deletion of that candidate’s primary application, and sometimes we also manually delete personal statements t ..read more

My schools hosts a two hour event for incoming medical students. I think it’s really just to meet your future classmates. I’m not sure if i need to dress formal or casual. The email doesn’t mention anything about dress code.
