Kicking is weird. Kickers are weird. High stress, high leverage and low usage. Finding one that can consistently deal with everything involved is not easy, as a Redskins fan, this has been pretty evident since a guy named Chip was cut in 1995. If you don't believe me, try to follow along in my Not-So Brief History of Modern Redskins Kickers, Part I. Brett Conway: 1998-2002, 41 Games Replaced: Cary Blanchard, Eddie Murray Replaced by: Michael Husted, James Tuthill Brett Conway begins the fun and games, brought in for the last 6 games of 1998 as a kick-off specialist (that's right, we carrie ..read more

Matt McBride had a pretty forgettable Rockies career, other than that he was the last remaining player from the Ubaldo Jimenez trade, not that was really that impressive unfortunately. In three seasons from 2012-2015 (he spent all of 2013 in the minors) he batted .199 with 4 home runs and 19 RBI. He also walked 3 times against 33 strikeouts. In 2015 his OPS+ was -8, that's right, negative 8. He did hit a Grand Slam once, so there is that. He hung around with the A's for a while in 2016, but that would be his last MLB stop. The card: 2016 is one of my favorite Stadium Club designs, and I thoug ..read more

Now that 2021 is in the books for the old Football Team and the new name is on the way, I present Part Two of the Not-So Brief History of Modern Washington Kickers. Part One is here. Billy Cundiff: 2012, 5 Games Replaced: Graham Gano  Replaced by: Kai Forbath  Billy Cundiff was signed to start the 2012 season, but only lasted 5 games going 7-12 including a 1-4 game in a 24-22 win over Tampa Bay. His Redskins stop was only a small part of his 136 game NFL career which included a Pro Bowl and 1st Team All Pro in 2010, 3  NFC Special Teams player of the Week awards, and a record ..read more

Check Out My .. Football Team Cards?

I have mentioned my lack of interest in picking up new products and cards in general, this again shows up in my latest COMC order, which includes a few "COMC Mailbox" adds. Only 30 cards, but I wanted to highlight a few, so you get them all. Starting with the second to last 2018 Spectra Alex Smith I need for the rainbow. Only the die-cut Orange to go. While Chase Young never actually suited up as a Redskin, a few early products snuck him in with some photo editing magic. I would rather have the old logo, but the pull of acetate was too strong to pass up. more acetate along s ..read more

The first COMC package of the year with some members of the franchise possibly to be know as the Commanders? Starting with a Boston Redskin, and the newest, oldest card in my collection, Pug Rentner from 1935 National Chicle. Pretty good score for $22 bucks, and a check of the "One of Every Redskin/WFT/???" project. Less Vintage-y, but still vintage-y, Jim Snowden from 1968 and Jim Kerr from the beautiful 1962 Topps set. A couple more "One of Every..." guys including a police issue Greg Manusky in the first Top Loader I have ever seen in that size. Maybe not a mini-collect ..read more

Enough in the scan folder to post, so here we go #60-  2020 Rookies & Stars - Allen Robinson Best post one-shell rule throwbacks by far, great helmet, great jersey, great socks. #148 - 2002 UD MVP - John Carney Over 302 NFL games Carney had 2 rushing attempts, only 1 prior to 2002, so this looks to a be a loss of 1 yard on a 4th and 10. Kickers doing non-kicker things are awesome and I will always try to sneak them in. #154 - 2009 Philadelphia - Troy Polamalu Hey, its the guy from the shampoo commercial.  #155 - 2019 Plates & Patches - David Tyree One o ..read more

Andrew Brown was selected off waivers by the Rockies after playing one season with the Cardinals. In his lone season with Colorado he would play 46 games with 5 home runs & 11 RBI serving as a "depth" outfielder. He would go on the play two seasons with the Mets as well as a season in Korea. 2018 Panini Encased football does the classy high end design really well and something about it just struck my eye.  Link to Project   ..read more

036 - 2012 Panini Gridiron - Julius Peppers If you have seen any of these post, you know there will be steaming hot special teams action, this card delivers in a big way. 062 - 2015 Prizm - Trent Richardson Zero year as part of a bizarre career, also had zero year potential with the Ravens, but never got a card with them. Probably the only player to play pro football in Canada, Mexico and the U.S.A. 064 - 2015 Rookies & Stars - Jay Cutler Smokin' Jay Cutler sporting a sweet throwback. 075 - 1996 Pinnacle - Yancey Thigpen Full extension by a man named Yancey! 097 - 2008 UD First Editi ..read more

RLC Custom Card Project: James Pazos

James Pazos is probably best know for his two seasons in Seattle (2017-2018) in which he pitched in 119 of his 155 career MLB games. He would come to the Rockies in September of 2019, finishing with a 1.74 ERA over 12 games. He would return to Colorado in August of 2020, but failed to have the same success finishing that season with a 16.88 ERA I miss Upper Deck, their flagship sets always seem to be nice, something that I haven't thought about Topps in quite a few years. I changed a few elements as the foil never seems to translate to a digital card. Link to Project   ..read more

#014 - 2003 UD Honor Roll - Chad Hutchinson Two sport athletes are a must to include somewhere, Hutchinson played in 15 NFL games between the Cowboys & Bears as well as 3 games with the Cardinals of the MLB. #109 - 2001 Pacific - Doug Pederson Snow game photo of journey-man back-up turned Super Bowl winning coach. My favorite might be the back which says "helped bring the Lombardi Trophy home to Green Bay for the 1996 season", then under stats for that year says "Did Not Play", so he didn't really help that much. #125 - 2003 Upper Deck - Isaac Bruce Not sure which way to put thi ..read more
