Considering we’re well into a typically long, hot and dry Western Australian summer, the Garden looks good. Most plots are well shaded and growing healthy crops of zucchini, tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, lettuces and herbs. Winter crops of broccoli/cauliflower and cabbages were magnificent last year but were swiftly removed when past their prime and under heavy attack from white fly. Anything uprooted or cut back is recycled through the composting system which provides a continuous source of rich, damp soil, full of worms. The quality of produce has a lot to do with not only gardening experti ..read more

The garden looks really good, the outcome of much care and attention. All plots are taken and there’s a waiting list. Most of winter crops of broccoli/cauliflower and cabbages were magnificent this year but are well past their prime and under assault from white fly. Whatever is left is being pulled out and recycled through the composting system as the hot summer weather bears down on us. Shade cloth is going up over most plots. The quality of produce has much to do with gardening expertise built up over the past 16 years (we’ve been here that long!) and deep, well composted soil in everyone’s ..read more

We’ve allocated plenty of time to prepare for this, to make sure it will be an Event To Remember. Even to the extent of pushing it back a further 12 months as there’s so much to consider and organise. We always need lots of assistance on the day and if you can contribute (friends and family are a great help), it will enable the whole event to flow smoothly. September 2024 is now proposed. The Garden looks great at that time of the year and the weather is hinting at warmer days ahead. How can you help? Let us know if you’d like to be involved in any of the following: Distribute promotional fly ..read more

The garden looks really good, the outcome of much care and attention. All plots are in use and many of the winter crops of broccoli/cauliflower and cabbages have been magnificent. The quality of produce has much to do with gardening expertise built up over the past 16 years (we’ve been here that long!) and well composted and enriched soil in everyone’s plots. The Garden has been through a very quiet patch. Attendances at working bees and Compost Club events were well down, also participation in community garden events. The committee structure underwent a seismic change at the Annual General Me ..read more

The garden looks really good, the outcome of much care and attention. In some ways the pervasive influence of Covid 19 was beneficial as many gardeners found they could be outside doing something useful yet maintain social distancing. Membership is good and there are a number of enthusiastic new gardeners. We look forward to good attendances at working bees and Compost Club and a generous contribution to many everyday Garden tasks. We have many people to thank for all our successes this year: the Town of Cambridge, Carole, Charlie, Peg, Anne, Lou, Ted, Adrian and Helen. Not to forget Felicity ..read more

We’re giving ourselves lots of time to prepare for this as there’s so much to consider and organise. We always need lots of assistance on the day and if you can contribute (friends and family also welcome), it will hugely help the whole event to flow smoothly. September 2023 is proposed as the Garden looks good at that time of the year and the weather is warming up. How can you help? Let us know if you’re prepared to do any of the following: Distribute promotional flyers by emailing to friends and family or by printing some and giving to neighbours. Bake cake and slices for sale on the jams ..read more

Unless  a major event is planned, the Garden Calendar alternates between compost building and working bees. Members come along to Compost Club (usually held in the late afternoon) for an hour of building up compost bays then stop for a beer (or preferred drink) and stay for a chat with other enthusiastic gardeners. Having regular compost club meetings helps enormously to maintain ample supplies of one of our most valuable resources – beautiful compost. The next Compost Club meeting will be on Thursday 29 September 2022. Working Bees are held about two months apart and are a wonderful way ..read more
