What happened to Montana Barrel Company? I bought two .32 X 13/16 X 42 barrels around 1989, built one for a good friend and put the other up for a good many years. I did mine in 2009. Sadly haven't shot it much or for a long time, until recently. Both rifles are very accurate and easy to load. Just wondering if anyone knows why they closed. They made a good barrel ..read more

Does anyone know how true the hammers of the reproductions are in dimensions to the originals?
Maybe the internals of the repros are made with modern coil springs even?
If I should bother to try to find a hammer as a spare part to fit or just have one made from scratch.
In that case I might also change the angle of the spurr to something a bit more ergonomical.
Also does anyone know what load they used in these, larger dose than the 1860 army ..read more

Hello, all. Brand new to this site. I'm a little confused and in need of advice. I recently bought a Lee mould, for TC Maxi Balls,in .50 cal. I regularly cast my own bullets but, this has me confused. The bullets that I cast with the Lee mould, are coming out as .510. The factory Maxi Balls I have, are around .505. The .510 Maxi balls won't load in either my, Encore, or my New Englander barrels, without Great effort. I've never had an issue with the factory loads. I'm just trying to save myself some money, by making my own. Any ideas why these are .005 bigger than factory ? And, what can I do ..read more

Not a shotgun guy, but this one interested me as it has "C. GOVE" engraved on each lock plate! Also has his full name engraved on the top rib of this 14ga. muzzleloader shotgun. "CARLOS GOVE DENVER, COL." Gove was the largest gun dealer West of the Mississippi from before the Civil War to the late 1800's when he died.
A very well cared for Damascus barreled shotgun, with all the various metal parts border engraved, and some nice wood. Very classic lightweight stocks and maybe weighs 7 lbs. Made in England, and Birmingham proofed ..read more

Hi Folks,
Would those of you in the know please recommend a flintlock target pistol? I'm looking for good accuracy and good sights, and don't mind if the gun is traditional in appearance or a modern design. While my immediate plan is to shoot informally, I do compete in bullseye pistol and high power rifle almost every week, so I may decide to compete with the flintlock pistol too.
Thanks, Tom ..read more

I have arthritis problems in my shoulders that make loading a tight patched round ball in my 54 cal 1x66 flintlock very painful. A friend suggested that I should try the Lee R.E.A.L. bullet, either the 300gr or 380gr, for deer hunting as a substitute. He says that they load with less resistance and still deliver good accuracy.
I'm looking for input from other longrifle shooters who have tried these bullets in the slow twist barrels. Is it possible to stabilize these bullets enough for decent hunting accuracy on 100 yd targets?
If the answer to this is "yes" I'd appreciate a link to a source ..read more
