Just landed! I'm stoked to start making some periodish correct linen cartridges. I have the Eras Gone Richmond Laboratories bullet mold that I'm going to use for my first batch of cartridges. I'm going to get the other mold that has the ringtail or what some people call the Christmas tree bullet later on. I paid a visit to The Log Cabin Shop in Lodi, OH. What a place! They have everything from rifles, parts, accoutrements and things to make your period correct clothes and gear. Even have a gunsmithing machine shop.I brought a flintlock and my black powder shooting box. Glad I did. They have a range out back. Had a blast with the flinter. Very nice helpful people too. The wallet took a hit on this one. ... Read more ..read more

Well, that changed recently as I picked up a pair of older Navy Arms imports. Looks like they were both built in 1977 by Pietta. Got them Home and cleaned the old grease out of them (seller said he hadn’t shot them in around 20 years). They are both nice and slick. Good bore and chambers and cylinder locks up very... Adventures in sighting in my new in-line muzzleloader.

After many years deer hunting with my 1985 TC Hawken, I had decided this year to get an in-line muzzleloader. I mostly wanted a rifle with a scope, and it always seemed sacrilegious to mount one on my old TC. I decided on a CVA Optima that came with a scope on it. I figured it would also be nice to have a lighter, stainless steel rifle that’s faster loading and easier to clean. Before I go to the range to sight in a scope, I usually start with my poor-man’s bore-sighting technique. That... Read more ..read more
