Pulled the scope off the muzzy today

With Utah's rule change, it got me looking at different options for my muzzleloader which has also been the needed nudge to look seriously at options that would be legal in Idaho or Colorado. Looking hard at the Williams peep system. Pretty impressed with the potential accuracy and range, and something about moving away from an optic on a muzzleloader appeals to me. I enjoyed the process of finding a great sabot-bullet-powder load for my Utah hunts and I think I'll enjoy experimenting with... Pulled the scope off the muzzy today ..read more

Traditional must be a PITA right now

So, not too long ago, an inlaw dropped off some old muzzy supplies that was handed down to him. He gave it to me, since I seem to be the only one in the family even remotely interested in muzzleloaders. So I've dug through this box a few times now, and it was educational digging through a possibles bag that is probably as old, if not a few years older than I am. I think this, because there was a couple cans of Goex, and the date printed on the bottom of one of them is 2-72, which I... Traditional must be a PITA right now ..read more

Traditions Pursuit any good?

I did a few nice things for a neighbor who had a critical emergency and a year later he came over and gave me a new Traditions Pursuit ML. Its in the original bag (not box), unfired. He got it from some one for free and just passing it along (he's not a muzzleloader guy, he likes old military rifles like Mosen-Nagant and Kar98's etc etc). Anywho... I forgot about it until just now when I ran across it. Its an ultra-light 50cal model, camo with a odd colored finish... sortof a copper color... Traditions Pursuit any good ..read more

Good Morning, All, Like many I am looking for more opportunities to hunt in UT. I'm down in STG and have been hunting the unicorn elk tag on Panguitch Lake and Dutton. I see the muzzle loader season and have never used one, but as a reloader, I don't see why I couldn't figure it out. I've looking at the CVA options and like the Optima or Accura. I like the price point and the Bergara barrels on those. Are there others I should be looking at? Should I be looking at 45 or 50 cal? Elk seems... Considering getting into MLs ..read more

My 3 boys hunted hard on the muzzleloader hunt. My 12 year old had a rifle tag was picky and could have taken several small 2pts during the hunt, but he stayed strong and decided not a take a deer during the muzzie hunt. He had one opportunity at a very large 2pt, but I just couldn't get a range fast enough and he couldn't get a shot off before he was gone. My 15 year old son after missing a small 4pt on the opener, missed another 3pt a couple days later and was not feeling confident about... Son's Muzzie Buck ..read more

Barnes bullets and sabots in CVA Accura

I have an LE Muzzleloader hunt coming up in two weeks so I decided to upgrade my scope and use some premium bullets for the upcoming hunt. The gun is a CVA Accura that I've had for over a dozen years. I've usually used it for whitetails and I used it on a NH moose hunt in 2010. I think I was using Hornady's in it for the moose hunt. I bought some 290g Barnes muzzleloader bullets and I shoot (2) IMR White Hot pellets. Most of my MZ elk hunting is done in CO so the rules are different and I... CVA Accura V1 vs V2?

I bought a CVA Accura back in 2010-ish from Cabela's on a close out deal. $169. I needed it for a moose hunt and my 700 MLS was out in Colorado at my buddy's house. It's blued with a .50 cal Bergara barrel and a black and white speckled synthetic stock. I broke the fiber optic out of the front sight last year and wanted to replace the front sight and discovered the front sight for the V1 and V2 are supposedly different. I looked all over my gun and couldn't find any description other than... CVA Accura V1 vs V2 ..read more
