View the original magazine articles about the Honda CB500 Four. My name is Edwin and I bought my first motorcycle, a 1972 CB500 Four K1, about twenty years ago. It was the start of my fascination for Honda SOHC 4 cylinder motorcycles. Since then I have collected several different versions of the CB500 Four, parts, documentation and other information which I will share on this website.

'La Moto', a French motorcycle magazine, was one of the first to test the 'new' Honda 500 Four in July 1971 in Japan.
Below some excerpts from the article.
'A small sister with long teeth.'
'It is the Japanese brand that has just caused the most ink to flow over the past two years. But, it is no longer by the sporting exploits of its six cylinders that these machines keep motorcyclists spellbound; this time, their domain remains much more prosaic, since it is only touring motorcycles. Touring machines certainly, but what machines! After arousing the greatest enthusiasm there is with their 75 ..read more

In 1974 the CB550 Four was introduced on the US market as an update to the CB500 Four. The models were cosmetically similar. Mechanically the model had some significant improvements in the transmission and of course the extra 50cc displacement.

'Moto Sport', an Italian motorcycle magazine, tested the 'new' Honda 500 Four in January 1972. This article contains some of the best color photos I've seen. Great look back in time.
Below some excerpts from the article.
'About two years after the presentation of the 750 four-cylinder, Honda entered the market with another motorcycle like the 750, but smaller in size. The commercial success of the 750 was and still is such that questions arise as to the reason for the smaller displacement, as the price difference between the two machines is not that big. These questions can be answered even a ..read more

This is a very rare and original brochure for the Japanese version of the 1971 CB500 Four (K0). The brochure is more of a booklet in a large format. Star of the many colorful and high resolution photos is a beautiful Candy Jade Green 500 Four.
I have tried to translate the Japanese text in the brochure as good as possible. After reading it, it's clear Honda was proud of their 500 Four!
The era of good motorcycles has begun. Dream CB500FOUR is now made with pride. For men who love motorcycles and set strict requirements, the Dream CB500FOUR will be the most suitable motorcycle.

The North American magazine 'Cycle World' wrote an article about the first preview of Honda's new 500 Four in their May '71 issue. Check out the awesome cover photo and read the article below.
Star of HONDA's lavish preview of 1971 models in San Diego was a scaled down version of the now-classic 750 Four. Displacing 498cc, the new "500 Four" is smaller, lighter, lower and shorter than its bigger brother. This will appeal greatly to riders of small stature who found the weight and the seat height of the 750 hard to cope with.
The weight factor alone should make the Four a fabulous handler, con ..read more
