I’ve had a dog who has been dealing with chronic ear infections. He would itch his ear and shake his head profusely to the point that he would give himself hematomas. An ear hematoma is when the ear fills up with blood. It’s basically the same thing wrestlers and jiu jitsu players get. The ear fills up with blood inside the ear flap and leads to what's called cauliflower ear.

Del Manto Kennels: Shaping the ADBA Show Scene
It would be hard to argue that any kennel has had a bigger impact on the ADBA show scene over the last ten years than Del Manto Kennels of Brazil. Del Manto's G/C Valhalla was the top ranked ADBA conformation dog in 2022. Del Manto's G/C Whisperwind was the top ranked female champion in back to back years ('22 & '23) while Del Manto's CH Batman became the first ADBA Champion in South America last year.
I had the pleasure of visiting them in September 2023 and I was impressed by their passion and dedication to their breeding pr ..read more

Living in the northeast United States, we experience cold, harsh winters. When raising dogs to live outside, it is important to be well prepared for the weather. I gradually begin increasing my dogs’ food intake in September to fatten them up for the impending winter. One of the benefits of living in the country is having access to leftover scraps from deer hunters. The unwanted venison meat, fat and bones are extremely valuable to someone raising dogs outside. It is very healthy and a great way to add extra calories to your dogs’ diet and help them gain weight for winter. Plus, it adds variet ..read more

Dog treadmills are a tool I’ve been using with my dogs for nearly 30 years. Like any other dog training tool, if used properly, a dog treadmill is beneficial to both the dog and the owner. Anyone who owns a performance breed understands how critical it is that their dogs have a job. If they do not have an outlet to release energy, they can become neurotic, problematic, destructive and just downright annoying. Treadmills offer a convenient and safe way to exercise your dogs despite unpleasant weather, a busy schedule, or your own physical limitations. Sure, you can walk or jog with your dog but ..read more

As you may remember, last week I was creating an email campaign for our new Steadfast 2.0 t-shirt release and accidentally sent it out with broken links causing all sorts of confusion.
Total nitwit move. ?♂️
After realizing I sent the email on accident, I wrote an email to everyone explaining what happened and encouraging them to write in and bust my chops a bit.
That may have been a bad idea because over the next few days I received a ton of responses!
???
I had a field day reading them all!
That said, I promised I would give a free co ..read more

My name is Andy Seguss and I’ve owned performance bred American Pit Bull Terriers at scale for over 29 years. Over this time, I’ve titled many dogs in the ADBA with my most well-known being G/C X TD Lucio and his father Sniper POE. I’ve been an ADBA conformation judge since 2015 and I've judged 26 events since then including 8 international assignments. I’m the 2017 ADBA Dogman of the Year award winner as well as the ADBA’s most requested judge in 2015 & 2017. I don’t say this to boast, but to give some insight as to my experience with the breed, both inside & outside of the ..read more

Over the last few years I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Priscilla Bezzi and her family. Priscilla is an amazing, vibrant woman who has spent her entire life with American Pit Bull Terriers. Her father, Luigi Bezzi is the Founder and President of the ADBA Italia Club and a former ADBA Dog Man of the Year. He is also a former European Boxing Champion. At only 23 years old, Priscilla is following in her father’s footsteps. She was awarded the 2017 ADBA Show Secretary award at the last convention and is also a boxing champion; just like her father!
Ciao Priscilla! Thank you for taking the ..read more

What is it about a dogs pedigree that fascinates people so much? Is it because people base their dogs worth on the past accomplishments of their dogs ancestors? Is it because they hope their dog will have a better chance of being good because it is a descendant of titled dogs?
A pedigree IS important to a certain extent. But far more important is the quality of the actual dog in question. If the dog is below average then it makes no difference if the dog is off a Grand Champion or the junkyard dog down the street. In the hands of a knowledgeable breeder a pedigree can be a useful tool to help ..read more

As I return from my judging assignment in Valencia, Spain I can’t help but think about the many friendships the American Pit Bull Terrier has bestowed upon me. It’s amazing to see how the dogs bring so many different people together. People across the world that share the same passion. Two people I am thrilled to call my friends are Sara & Victor from Cane Victrix Kennel. I first met them at the ADBA Italia show in 2015. They are serious, passionate and dedicated. Like many clubs in the United States, ADBA Espana is comprised of a small, but powerful team. What they were able to accomplish ..read more

I recently attended a seminar hosted by a popular dog breeder and published author. I was excited to attend, as I am always interested in acquiring more knowledge and learning from anyone I can. As the seminar went on, I found myself questioning quite a bit of what this person was saying. I kept an open mind and continued to pay attention realizing that not everyone always has the same viewpoints on everything. After sitting through a full day, there were a few things that convinced me that this person was not providing me with any value. Needless to say, I spent the second day of the seminar ..read more
