The excitement is gathering for our latest in-house production, Treasure Island. We’re thrilled to announce the cast members. It’s great because we’ve worked with two of the stars before and we’re inviting two others into our family. Well, what’s the story of the show? Orphaned teenager Jim Hawkins, left in the careless care of Aunt Agnes, is serving ale in the Admiral Benbow when the infamous pirate Billy Bones crashes into the bar and changes his life forever. Perfect for fans of the Greenwich Theatre pantomime, this riotously chaotic adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s beloved tale of ..read more

It seems that not only in popular culture, playwright Mike Bartlett could well be top of the class as part of the educational curriculum, well at least that’s what Helen Ramsay thinks! “I came across Mike Bartlett at uni. He’s seriously great for monologues and I don’t think any acting student will be able to escape his name in drama school – he’s a legend! This is evident with his shows on the West End at the moment, they all seem to be timeless, relatable and eloquently written.” At Greenwich, we’re really honored to be able to continue doing what we love best; supporting burgeoning talen ..read more

We’re really keen to bring a well-know Mike Bartlett play to Greenwich Theatre. The play questions our perceptions about our friendships. In it, An Intervetnion studies the external ethics of war, politics and beliefs, which collide as two people who thought they knew each other, see their friendship tested to its limits. We’re pleased to be working with Lauren Drennan and Helen Ramsay, who will star in the play as character ‘B’ and ‘A’ respectively. Lauren you’ll remember, worked with us on our production of Alarms and Excursions, whilst Helen is a newcomer to stage and our theatre. We’ve g ..read more

An Intervention, a play by Mike Bartlett has a familiar premise. Two dear friends share a deep, long-standing bond. However, the volatile  world of political affairs enters their relationship to test the integrity between them. A war breaks out in another country and their beliefs about loyalty, kindred-ship and conflict become embroiled. Bartlett is known for creating and writing acerbic content including the lauded BBC television series Doctor Foster, which starred Suranne Jones (Coronation Street/Save Me) in the titular role. The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA) announced earlier this April that it was to close for good. It cited that the school was no longer “financially viable” as the reasons for its closure. Starting in 1979, ALRA had campuses in Wigan and Wandsworth, south London, but even after a number of strategies to stablise its viability, to include a restructuring, the establishement couldn’t be saved. Priding himself in working with young and upcoming theatre talent, Greenwich Theatre’s James Haddrell had much to say about the closure of the school and he added further insights into the role ..read more
