I'm after book suggestions on 5/7.25" loco design and construction. I see lots on general workshop practice etc but what I'm after is practical stuff about the design of locomotives, generally accepted standards, that sort of thing. Is there such a book?  ..read more

I’ve just come across this engine which was made by a family friend. He has asked me to try and find the identification of this model as he can’t remember and has lost the documents. I believe it was from a engineering in miniature magazine issue.
Any help would be appreciated ..read more

Having just started building a GWR Grange in 5" scale I thought it would be useful to document the process. As a bit of a newbie but with some engineering experience I am starting with an GWR Grange utilising a lot of the castings/parts from Polly Model Engineering to help me get accustomed again before, motivation allowing, moving onto bigger things.

There was an article in Railway Modeller magazine September 2015, vol 66, No779, featuring an article called "An unusual waiting room" (724) which depicted some fantastic black and white photographs of Reedesmouth Station I had not seen before.
It does not mention the author of the item but the artist of the line drawings was Ian Futers.
Does anybody know where I could obtain some high resolution files of these photos ..read more

When I was very young (Circa 1970?) I had some Hornby Dublo 3 rail.
My father used to get it mended at a shop in North View Westbury Park Bristol.
The owner also built Miniature Loco's for public ride on railways. I am told that unlike other builders he fitted a 'freewheel' so the engines didnt thrash themselves to death when 'over running'
Anyone got any information on this builder, long shot I know ..read more
