One of the most common problems encountered with BMW vehicles is ignition coil failure. While these parts are designed to last for years, there are some factors that can cause an early failure. In this article, we will discuss the reasons behind BMW ignition coil failure and how to spot the signs.
What Is The Ignition Coil In Your BMW?
The ignition coil of your BMW is a transformer that steps up the battery’s 12 volts to the thousands of volts needed to fire the spark plugs and start the engine. It is composed of two coils of wire around an iron core. The primary coil receives power from the b ..read more

Ordinarily, an engine rotational speed should make the engine shake or vibrate while in operation, but the engine mount holds it in place to prevent it from moving. As insignificant as the engine mount may seem, it is one of those immoveable parts required for a smooth driving experience.
Although the mount should last anywhere between 5 to 7 years, it should be checked regularly since your driving habits or driving conditions could accelerate its wear. Driving with a damaged engine mount would impact your engine performance and driving experience. A failed mount cannot firmly hold the engine ..read more

Meet Rob: Rob drives a BMW 328i and first came to Peak Auto a month ago for a dead battery issue and recently came back to Peak Auto for a intermittent crank no start issue. Battery replacement in BMW’s can be a bit confusing since the car requires the installer to register (or program) the battery to the vehicle. What does this mean and why is it important? The BMW vehicle computers are extremely sophisticated and they monitor how the car battery is charged in order to make sure they do not under or over charge. This system does work and the BMW batteries tend to last a very long ti ..read more

Yes, brakes, brakes, brakes! Are good, good, good! But how do you know if you have good brakes. Manufacturers spend a great deal of time working with their brake, or friction, vendors/manufacturers. Yes, car makers do not make their own brakes. Textar, Brembo, AC Delco, Akebono, and Zimmerman are a few to name. These brake manufacturers make and supplied brakes for car, SUV, and Minivans. They are OE or OEM manufacturers. It is a complicated process to determine the right size, shape, and material of brake pads in order to match up with the high demands of today’s aut ..read more

Meet Jon: Jon lives in Apex and drives a BMW X3. Jon has had his BMW X3 serviced at Peak Auto since June of 2016 and recently had a dash warning light come on of “Service Engine Soon”. BMW calls the “check engine light” service engine soon. It can be a bit confusing since we all think of service as an oil and filter change.
Jon’s BMW X3’s Service engine soon light stated that the engine was running too lean. This is usually caused by an air intake leak between the air mass meter and the engine. If the BMW car computer cannot tell how much air is coming into the engine then it cannot ..read more
