1911 - how to secure a staked plunger tube

This applies to 1911s that do not have an integral plunger tube cast into the frame. The original design of the 1911 specified that the left grip was to support the plunger tube to prevent it from dismounting due to a poor staking job. Manufacturers have long been known of not always doing a good job of staking plunger tubes securely to frames. Some are known to not even countersink the holes through which the tube rivets pass. If a plunger tube comes loose, proper functioning of the... 1911 - how to secure a staked plunger tube ..read more

Why does Kimber have to be such a PITA sometimes

The grip safety in my MCP has been squeaking. I bought it VERY used, knowing it was going to get a lot more used by me and not gently. This is the gun that goes to work with me into harsh, dirty environments, gets sweated on, trained with in the rain and mud, dropped out of shitty Galco Jackass holsters because the design is garbage, yadda yadda yadda it's been through stuff. So, that the only "issue" I've had with the poor thing is a squeaky grip safety speaks volumes to Kimber 1911... Why does Kimber have to be such a PITA sometimes ..read more

I just saw a friend’s Kimber with a Ceiner Conversion. I was surprised to see 4 holes drilled through the frame on both sides. 1.Anyone ever seen anything like this? 2. Would the gun be safe to use with a .45 slide and barrel? Totally new to me. Thanks in advance ..read more

Front sight on Pro Carry 2

Hi, can someone tell me if there is something locking the front sight onto the slide? IMy new Kimber came with the front sight almost all the way to the right rather than centered on the slide. Naturally it shoots to the left about 2"-3" at 12 yrds. I tried tapping it with a brass punch using my gunsmith hammer but it does not want to move. I'd appreciate any help or info on this. Thanks..... Colt.45 ..read more

Which Model Do I Really Have?

Trying to find out which platform my gun is built on. I have a Texas Edition Royal II, which is a beautifully embellished gun, but which is obviously based on a different Kimber model with the “pretty” touches added. I would like to search the forums for information about my gun, but I don’t know which actual model it is built upon. Thanks in advance ..read more

Series 80 Safety

Since I got so many helpful replies to my first question, I thought I would throw this one out as well. My Kimber has the Series 80 safety. I am asking this purely as a mechanical question, not related to legal liability, voiding warranty or anything else. Can the Series 80 safety pin and spring be removed, in effect turning the gun into a Series 70? I know a little about 1911's, but I'm certainly no gunsmith. All of the other 1911's I have ever owned have all been Series 70, so I'm... Series 80 Safety ..read more
